One morning, an elderly couple, having slept soundly the previous night, wakes up curled up in bed. She pulls away when the husband extends his hand to touch hers, pleading with him not to touch her.
Confused, he asks, “Why not?” She answers directly, saying, “Because I’m deceased.” “But we’re both here, conversing in bed,” he protests, looking shocked.
She doesn’t waver, though, saying, “No, I assure you, I am dead.” He persists, unfazed, asking, “How can you possibly believe that?” “Because I felt no pain when I woke up this morning,” is her straightforward justification.
