Longtime Fox News Host Exits the Network After Almost 30 Years — Here’s Why

Fans reacted with mixed opinions to Neil Cavuto’s announcement that he is leaving Fox News. The journalist explained his reasons for departing in a social media post, with his contract cited as a key factor.

After nearly three decades with Fox News Channel (FNC), Neil Cavuto announced his departure on December 20, 2024, during a live broadcast. The network shared a clip of the announcement on Instagram, which also included footage of Cavuto appearing much younger in a broadcast from October 7, 1996.

Joking about how some viewers might be thinking, “It’s about time,” the television personality clarified that he was not leaving journalism entirely, only his position at Fox News. He remarked, “You know there are people working now who weren’t even born when I started at Fox. That’s how old I am.”

The “Your World” host expressed gratitude to his network’s leadership, describing them as “very good” to him over the years. He shared that they had even offered him a generous opportunity to stay longer, which he found surprising given his challenges with ailments such as Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and COVID-19, which occasionally kept him away from work.

Despite his struggles with multiple infections and undergoing open-heart surgery, the network still wanted him to stay. Cavuto explained that as he steps away, he chooses to focus on the blessings in his life rather than the issues that divide people.

He emphasized that he was leaving with “good thoughts and wishes,” taking a moment to wish his fans a Merry Christmas and a fulfilling New Year. As he became emotional, he expressed how much his years at the network and his fans meant to him.

Fans were deeply saddened by the news, with one writing“I watch Fox News on nearly a daily basis. Why is this the first time I’m hearing about Neil’s retirement? Man I’m gonna miss him.” Another fan asked“Why so sudden?”

A third person commented“Going to miss you!! Truly a great guy! Best wishes for good health and a Merry Christmas 🎄.” However, not everyone shared the same sentiment. One individual wrote dismissively, “Good riddance 👏👏👏.”

Another added“Didn’t watch him and I am not sad he’s leaving.” Cavuto’s fans were not the only ones moved by his announcement. Fox’s Senior National Correspondent, Aishah Hasnie, reshared his post and added her heartfelt thoughts.

Hasnie wrote“There will never be another Neil Cavuto. Known for hosting every show without any scripts. Inviting folks from the left, right, center. Encouraging healthy debate. And making news almost daily. I loved laughing with you on air and learned so much from you. You will be missed, sir. @TeamCavuto.”
