A fireman named Pedro Bras shared a photo on Facebook of firefighters lying in the grass in Pedróg Grande, Portugal.
Everyone agrees that being a fireman is an incredibly important profession. I recently experienced a fire at home, which was quickly extinguished by the prompt and efficient firefighters who arrived almost immediately.
This photo below illustrates the dedication and seriousness with which firemen approach their work.
Recently, a terrifying forest fire in Portugal required the efforts of 1,150 men working tirelessly to prevent its spread and eventually extinguish it.
Approximately 25 firefighters were injured as a result of the fire.
Two devastating fires that struck Portugal in June and October of the previous year resulted in a total of 114 fatalities.
However, this compelling image does not depict fallen firefighters as it might initially appear. It shows exhausted firefighters, worn out from working in perilous conditions, taking a break and lying in the grass to regain their strength.
Pedro said, “After working hard all day and all night, we decided to take a break and relax by the river for a quarter of an hour; at that time, we noticed that the air was thick with smoke.”
According to Pedro, the firefighters took a short 25-minute rest after working 24 hours straight to contain and stop the fire. The picture clearly depicts the smoke-filled environment.
Temperatures reached an all-time high of around 46 degrees Celsius on August 5th. About 13 planes flew above the fire, dropping water to stop it from spreading, and approximately 160 soldiers were called in to assist with evacuation efforts.
The photo went viral immediately, garnering about 9,000 user responses, 1,300 comments, and more than 6,000 shares. Many people expressed their gratitude for the firefighters’ efforts.
Manja Knofel stated that every firefighter is a hero in their own way. Another person agreed that they deserved “rest and praise” for their remarkable work.
The firefighters did everything they could, according to Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa. Some of them suffered severe injuries as a result.
The police hope that the tragic events of the previous year will not be repeated this year.
