On January 20, 2025, during the inauguration ceremonies in Washington, D.C., President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump shared a limousine ride to the U.S. Capitol. This gesture marked a return to traditional protocols, contrasting with the 2021 inauguration when then-President Trump did not attend Biden’s swearing-in.
Accompanying them in the vehicle was Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, who serves as the chair of the bipartisan Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies.
The shared ride was emblematic of a commitment to unity and the peaceful transfer of power, foundational principles of American democracy. Observers noted the significance of this moment, highlighting the importance of bipartisan cooperation during times of political transition.
While specific details of the conversation inside the limousine remain private, the act of traveling together was seen as a positive step toward bridging political divides and fostering a collaborative spirit between outgoing and incoming administrations.
As President Joe Biden prepared to depart the White House on January 20, 2025, he continued the tradition of leaving a letter for his successor, President-elect Donald Trump. This practice, initiated by Ronald Reagan in 1989, symbolizes the peaceful transfer of power and offers personal reflections or advice to the incoming president.
Four years prior, upon assuming office, President Biden discovered a handwritten letter from outgoing President Trump on the Resolute Desk. Biden described the note as “very generous,” though he chose to keep its contents private, stating he would not disclose details until he had spoken directly with Trump.
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki later provided insights into this exchange, recounting how President Biden found the letter and read it privately, reflecting his respectful approach to the personal nature of the correspondence.
As President Biden now leaves office, his decision to pen a letter to President-elect Trump underscores his commitment to upholding presidential traditions, even amidst the unique circumstance of transitioning power back to a former president. The contents of Biden’s letter remain confidential, maintaining the personal and private nature of this presidential custom.
During President Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20, 2025, a candid exchange between former Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush captured public attention. A lip-reading analysis by Jackie Gonzalez, a deaf interpreter, suggests that Obama greeted Bush with, “Good to see you,” followed by the question, “How can we stop what’s happening?” Bush reportedly responded with a laugh. This interpretation has sparked discussions about the former presidents’ sentiments during the ceremony.
It’s important to note that lip-reading, especially in dynamic settings, is not always precise. Gonzalez herself acknowledged the limitations, stating that such interpretations are alleged and not definitive. Despite this, the video has gained significant traction online, with viewers intrigued by the perceived exchange.
This incident highlights the public’s interest in the interactions of former leaders during significant political events. While the exact words exchanged remain uncertain, the moment serves as a reminder of the varied reactions and emotions present during pivotal moments in history.
During his inauguration on January 20, 2025, President Donald Trump took a moment to acknowledge his youngest son, Barron Trump, highlighting his significant height and growing involvement in public engagements. Barron, who is nearly seven feet tall, stood out during the ceremony, engaging with the crowd by waving and gesturing, actions reminiscent of his father’s style. President Trump humorously noted Barron’s height, stating, “He’s a tall young man, isn’t he?” This public recognition not only showcased the close bond between father and son but also introduced Barron as an emerging figure in the Trump family’s public life.
In addition to his presence at the inauguration, Barron is reportedly embarking on a career in real estate, following in his father’s footsteps. Partnering with high school classmate Cameron Roxburgh, they formed a real estate business in July 2024, with plans to launch officially in spring 2025. This venture highlights Barron’s initiative and entrepreneurial spirit at a young age.
The public acknowledgment of Barron during the inauguration, coupled with his budding career endeavors, suggests a more prominent role for him in the public eye in the coming years. As the Trump family continues to be a focal point in American politics and business, Barron’s activities will likely attract significant attention and interest.
On January 21, 2025, Vice President J.D. Vance experienced a significant moment as he entered the Oval Office for the first time. Accompanied by President Donald Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson, Vance’s reaction was one of awe and admiration. Captured on video by Speaker Johnson, Vance remarked, “Wow, this is incredible,” reflecting his deep appreciation for the historic setting.
This visit occurred during a meeting with President Trump, Speaker Johnson, and other Republican leaders to discuss key agenda items for Congress. The moment was highlighted by Johnson as emblematic of the American Dream, noting Vance’s rise from a humble background in Appalachia. Vance’s journey, detailed in his 2016 memoir “Hillbilly Elegy,” includes overcoming poverty and family struggles to succeed academically and politically. Endorsed by Trump in the 2022 Ohio Senate primary, Vance was later chosen as Trump’s Vice President.
The video shared by Speaker Johnson quickly gained attention, symbolizing the significance of Vance’s ascent to one of the nation’s highest offices. It also underscored the collaborative relationship between the Vice President and congressional leadership as they embarked on their new roles.
In a recent YouTube vlog, Kai Trump, the 17-year-old granddaughter of President Donald Trump, shared a lighthearted moment involving her cousin, Barron Trump. While responding to questions from her audience, Kai encountered a query from Elon Musk that included the term “PvP.” Admitting her unfamiliarity with the gaming acronym, she laughed and remarked, “I don’t know what that means.” This prompted viewers to suggest she consult Barron, known for his interest in gaming, with one commenter humorously noting, “Lol, ask Barron.”
This exchange offers a glimpse into the everyday interactions of the Trump family, highlighting the relatable dynamics between cousins. Kai’s candid admission and the subsequent online reactions underscore the universal experience of generational gaps in understanding contemporary slang and technology.
For those interested in more behind-the-scenes content, Kai has been actively sharing her experiences on her YouTube channel, including vlogs from significant events like her grandfather’s inauguration. These videos provide a personal look into her life and the unique experiences of being part of the First Family.
Barron Trump won plaudits and praise for his behavior and gestures towards now-former President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris during Monday’s inauguration.
President Donald Trump’s youngest — and by far, tallest — son shook hands with Biden and Harris after his mother, first lady Melania Trump, did the same, despite the vitriol spewed at his father by the outgoing commander-in-chief and his second-in-command throughout the 2024 campaign.
Trump, now the nation’s 47th president, took his oath of office using two Bibles — one given to him as a boy by his mother and the other used by President Abraham Lincoln. He also used the Lincoln Bible during his 2016 inauguration.
But it was Barron, now an 18-year-old student at New York University, whom social media users singled out for his magnanimous peace offering.
Barron Trump just shook hands with Joe Biden and Kamala Harris
“Barron Trump just shook hands with Joe Biden and Kamala Harris This kid will be our President one day. Bet on it,” indy journalist Nick Sortor posted on X along with a video clip of the handshake.
“Barron Trump is so classy beyond his years… Great job raising him Prez Dad and Prez Mom,” another X user wrote
Another user posted along with a video montage of Barron clips: “Barron Trump is a multilingual young man. Melania and President Trump have a done an outstanding job raising Barron, he certainly helped President Trump during the election by having him go on popular podcast.”
“Like his father, he will probably be able to get along with just about anyone,” said another account.
“Incredible maturity for his age. Excellent parenting,”
Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters, whose district includes the city of Los Angeles, claimed during a NewsNation interview on Friday that she isn’t “playing politics” with the destructive wildfires sweeping through the region in calling for higher taxes on “the rich.”
In an interview with host Chris Cuomo, Waters — herself a multimillionaire — made the excuse that “services cost money” in response to the resources needed to combat the blazes, though residents of her city and the state of California already pay some of the highest taxes in the country.
“I’m not into the blame game. I’m not into talking about whether or not Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) is trying to protect himself and run for president, none of that,” Waters told Cuomo.
“The first thing we’ve got to understand is, services cost money, and we should be willing to get the richest people in this country, the richest 1% that is protected, make sure they pay their fair taxes so that we can have the money to provide the services,” she began.
“With that money and with those resources, the people who have been selected or elected to do the job should do the job. I don’t care who it is. It could be Democrat, it could be Republican, it could be whatever,” she continued. “But the fact of the matter is, we all should have heavy hearts right now, but we should have faith and we should be on point by making sure that we do everything to help the people that need us.
“Dammit, you can do the politics later. You can come and talk about Gavin Newsom later. You can talk about the Democrats later,” she insisted.
WATCH:
“The top 5% pay more than 65% of federal income taxes, the highest 10% pay 75% of them and the top 25% are accountable for 89%. The bottom half of earners, who make below $46,627 a year, paid just 2% of federal personal income tax,” CBS Austin reported in October.
Meanwhile, Newsom, along with L.A. Mayor and former U.S. congresswoman Karen Bass, are both being blamed for a series of failures that critics say have exacerbated the damage and loss of life.
On Sunday, Vice President-elect JD Vance slammed false claims that the incoming administration planned to withhold emergency wildfire aid after anchor Shannon Bream asked Vance about what the president-elect said at a press conference in Los Angeles in September 2024.
“We won’t give him money to put out all his fires,” Trump said of Newsom. “And if we don’t give him the money to put out his fires, he’s got problems.”
After Bream asked if Trump planned to follow through, Vance responded that the objective is to ensure federal aid dollars are more efficiently delivered and spent. “No, look, President Trump cares about all Americans, right? He is the president for all Americans. And I think that he intends to have FEMA and other federal responses much, much better and much more clued into what’s going on there on the ground,” Vance said.

Asked about Newsom’s invitation for Trump to visit his state, Vance said, “I know the president would love to visit California” and that “our hearts go out” to those affected by the natural disasters.
“Whatever your political affiliation, it’s hard not to see those images and just be heartbroken for our fellow Americans who are going through a very tough time,” Vance said.
“And I do think, frankly, the federal government has to do a better job. President Trump is committed to doing a better job when it comes to disaster relief. That’s true for the hurricane victims and flood victims in North Carolina. It’s true for the fire victims in California. We just — we have to do a better job. We need competent, good governance,” Vance added.
Vance added that Trump still can criticize Newsom “for, I think, some very bad decisions over a very long period of time.”
In a round of last-minute pardons aimed at shielding allies from potential reprisals by President-elect Donald Trump, President Joe Biden granted clemency to a select group of individuals—but the move is not without complications for the recipients.
Former Wyoming Republican congresswoman and Jan. 6 Committee co-chair Liz Cheney and Dr. Anthony Fauci were among the limited list of pardon recipients, a gesture Biden’s aides say was intended to preempt acts of vengeance by Trump or his incoming administration.
However, legal experts were quick to point out that the pardons would not exempt either individual from having to testify under oath if subpoenaed.
Federal litigation attorney Jesse Binnall pointed out that Biden’s pardons do not shield Cheney Fauci from consequences if they lie under oath, should the GOP-controlled Congress subpoena them to testify. In his words, the pardons could be “great news” for anyone seeking to see the two prosecuted.
“The pardons are actually great news. No one who was just pardoned will be able to refuse to testify in a civil, criminal, or congressional proceeding based upon the 5th Amendment,” Binnall wrote on X, before dropping another truth bomb.
“And let’s just be realistic. Most of these disgusting individuals would probably have to be charged in Washington, DC, which doesn’t convict partisan leftists,” Binnall, also a former attorney for President Donald Trump, wrote.
Other X users offered a potential solution to the problem of liberal bias in DC, including retired U.S. Army officer, lawyer, and author Kurt Schlichter.
“This is key – the depositions and the actual testimony must take place outside of Washington DC. Washington DC is a biased venue that will not convict Democrats when they commit perjury. Accordingly, take this show on the road,” he wrote.
Others who received Sunday night pardons were former Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman and Army Gen. Mark Milley, who later criticized Trump during his first term and all other members of the J6 committee.
Trump specifically addressed Biden’s pardon of Cheney while he was signing executive orders in the Oval Office on Monday in between inauguration day functions.
“I was going to talk about the things that Joe did today with the pardons of people that were very, very guilty of very bad crimes, like the unselect committee of political folks,” he told assembled reporters, referring to the Jan. 6 panel.
“Why are we doing this? Why are we trying to help a guy like Milley? Why are we helping Liz Cheney?” he asked. “I mean, Liz Cheney is a disaster. She’s a crying lunatic and crying, crying.”
Trump on Why Biden Pardoned Liz Cheney:
“Liz Cheney, she's a lunatic … Why would Biden do that? He pardoned her and pardoned everybody. The reason is that they destroyed documents. And if you're even in a civil case, which this wouldn't be, people go to jail for a long time for… pic.twitter.com/dsvCHlToin
Former Arizona state legislature candidate Josh Barnett (R) explained in a lengthy post on X that blanket presidential pardons don’t automatically cover every potential wrongdoing.
“A pardon typically grants forgiveness for a specific offense or set of offenses committed before the pardon was issued. However, if someone is found guilty of treason after receiving a pardon for previous crimes, the pardon does not extend to this new offense,” he said, perhaps a reference to Milley, who reportedly contacted his Chinese counterpart in the waning days of Trump’s first term and said he would “warn” him of any pending U.S. attack.
“A pardon only covers the crimes explicitly mentioned or implicitly understood to be covered by the pardon at the time it was granted. If the treason was committed or discovered after the pardon, it would not be protected by that pardon,” he added.
An organization that former Vice President Mike Pence founded has launched a pressure campaign to convince Republican senators to reject Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s nomination to become President Donald Trump’s secretary of Health and Human Services.
Pence — who served as Trump’s vice president in his first term — is opposed to RFK Jr. due to his previous support for abortion.
“Whatever the merits of RFK Jr’s Make America Healthy Again initiative—indeed, whatever other qualities a nominee might possess—an HHS Secretary must have a firm commitment to protect unborn children, or else bend under the pressure and pushback surrounding these daily, critical decisions,” Advancing American Freedom President Tim Chapman and Board Chairman Marc Short, Pence’s former chief of staff, wrote in a letter to senators.
“While RFK Jr. has made certain overtures to pro-life leaders that he would be mindful of their concerns at HHS, there is little reason for confidence at this time,” they wrote.
This marks the second formal effort by Pence and his organization to block Kennedy’s confirmation. Shortly after Trump announced Kennedy’s nomination, Pence issued a statement urging senators to reject him due to his past support for abortion, The Hill reported.
Kennedy, who initially launched a 2024 presidential campaign as a Democrat, had endorsed a ban on abortion after the first trimester but soon backtracked. He also expressed opposition to banning abortion before fetal viability, generally around 24 weeks of pregnancy.
On his campaign website, Kennedy said he is “a firm supporter of the principles laid out 50 years ago in Roe v. Wade” and that “if the courts do not overturn Dobbs v. Jackson and restore abortion rights, he will support legislation to accomplish the same.”
GOP senators appear unfazed by his past statements and have largely supported Kennedy after meeting with him. And Kennedy has been attempting to reassure Republicans by stating that his personal views are irrelevant and that he will implement all the anti-abortion policies from the first Trump administration.
Trump has consistently stated that abortion access should be determined by individual states as per the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2022 Roe v. Wade ruling. During the campaign, he presented himself as a moderate on the issue.
However, Pence, a staunch religious conservative, has increasingly criticized his former boss on policy matters, particularly abortion. Pence previously described Trump’s stance as a “slap in the face” to those opposed to abortion.
All said, Pence said he “welcomed” his interaction with Trump at former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral last week as the two shook hands.
The service’s broadcast featured several memorable moments, including former President George W. Bush playfully tapping former President Barack Obama on the stomach and a notable conversation between Obama and Trump within earshot of Vice President Kamala Harris.
The event also spotlighted a handshake and a brief exchange between Trump and Pence, drawing considerable attention.
It was the first time the two met and spoke since January 6, 2021, when thousands of MAGA supporters stormed the Capitol, and Pence ignored Trump’s wishes by certifying Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential victory, the Washington Times reported.

“The opportunity to speak to the president yesterday is something that I appreciated, I welcomed,” Pence told Christianity Today Editor-in-Chief Russell Moore for a podcast episode slated to air Wednesday.
“I’ve really been blessed at how much I’ve heard from people around the country who saw [our] handshake and, in that handshake, saw some hope that we might be moving past those difficult days,” he continued. “That’s certainly my hope.”
However, not everyone used the Carter funeral as an opportunity to resolve past grievances.
Pence’s wife, Karen, refused to even acknowledge Donald and Melania Trump.
By the end of Wednesday, heads of departments and agencies must start taking action to close all diversity, equity, and inclusion offices and put government employees working in those offices on paid leave, according to a notification from the federal Office of Personnel Management (OPM).
On Tuesday night, Charles Ezell, the acting director of the Office of Personnel Management, sent a memo to department and agency heads and acting heads instructing them to do the following by Wednesday, January 22, at 5 p.m.:
–Send an agency-wide notice to employees informing them of the closure and asking employees if they know of any efforts to disguise these programs by using coded or imprecise language
–Send a notification to all employees of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) offices that they are being placed on paid administrative leave effective immediately as the agency takes steps to close/end all DEIA initiatives, offices and programs.
–Take down all outward facing media (websites, social media accounts, etc.) of DEIA offices
–Withdraw any final or pending documents, directives, orders, materials and equity plans issued by the agency in response to the now-repealed Executive Order 14035, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility in the Federal Workforce (June 25, 2021)
–Cancel any DEIA-related trainings and terminate any DEIA-related contractors
The memo, as detailed by Fox News, also directed department and agency leaders, that by noon Thursday, Jan. 23, they must share with OPM:
–A complete list of DEIA offices and any employees who were in those offices as of Nov. 5, 2024
–A complete list of all DEIA-related agency contracts as of Nov. 5, 2024
–Any agency plans to fully comply with the above executive orders and this memorandum
By Friday at 5 p.m., agency heads must submit to OPM:
–A written plan for executing a reduction-in-force action regarding the employees who work in a DEIA office
–A list of all contract descriptions or personnel position descriptions that were changed since Nov. 5, 2024, to obscure their connection to DEIA programs
President Donald Trump’s executive order to halt all federal DEI programs on Monday prompted the release of the memo.
Additionally, an order signed by the president states that “the official policy of the U.S. government to only recognize two genders: male and female.”
On Tuesday, Trump signed two additional executive actions that targeted DEI: a memo to repeal a Biden administration policy that gave preference to DEI hiring at the Federal Aviation Administration and an executive order to end discrimination in higher education and the workplace through sex- and race-based preferences under the pretense of DEI.

In the executive order signed Tuesday, Trump sought to protect Americans from discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex or national origin. He said these civil-rights protections “serve as a bedrock supporting equality of opportunity for all Americans” and that he “has a solemn duty to ensure that these laws are enforced for the benefit of all Americans.”
“Yet today, roughly 60 years after the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, critical and influential institutions of American society, including the Federal Government, major corporations, financial institutions, the medical industry, large commercial airlines, law enforcement agencies, and institutions of higher education have adopted and actively use dangerous, demeaning, and immoral race- and sex-based preferences under the guise of so-called ‘diversity, equity, and inclusion’ (DEI) or ‘diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility’ (DEIA) that can violate the civil-rights laws of this Nation,” the order reads.
It adds that these “illegal DEI and DEIA policies also threaten the safety of American men, women, and children across the Nation by diminishing the importance of individual merit, aptitude, hard work, and determination when selecting people for jobs and services in key sectors of American society, including all levels of government, and the medical, aviation, and law-enforcement communities.”
“Illegal and discriminatory diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) hiring, including on the basis of race, sex, disability, or any other criteria other than the safety of airline passengers and overall job excellence, competency, and qualification, harms all Americans, who deserve to fly with confidence,” the memo reads. “It also penalizes hard-working Americans who want to serve in the FAA but are unable to do so, as they lack a requisite disability or skin color. FAA employees must hold the qualifications and have the ability to perform their jobs to the highest possible standard of excellence.”
The memo states: “All so-called DEI initiatives, including all dangerous preferencing policies or practices, shall immediately be rescinded in favor of hiring, promoting, and otherwise treating employees on the basis of individual capability, competence, achievement, and dedication.”
Senate Majority John Thune (R-S.D.) has set up a vote to confirm former Fox News host and Army veteran Pete Hegseth to become the next secretary of defense under President Donald Trump.
The Hill reported Tuesday that Senate Republicans are pressing forward with Hegseth’s nomination despite an affidavit obtained by Senate Democrats from his former sister-in-law that mysteriously showed up this week after Hegseth was successfully voted out of the Armed Services Committee.
The document accuses him of struggling with alcohol abuse and being abusive toward his ex-wife, Samantha Hegseth, though his ex-, in a brief statement released on Tuesday, has denied that Hegseth was ever violent towards her.
On Tuesday, Thune filed a motion to end debate on Hegseth’s nomination, which was advanced by the Senate Armed Services Committee in a party-line 14-13 vote just hours after Trump was sworn into office.
This sets the stage for a Senate vote to advance Hegseth’s nomination on Thursday, with a final confirmation vote expected on Friday or possibly early Saturday morning.
Senate Armed Services Committee Chair Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) informed reporters that Republicans are prepared to continue working through the weekend to confirm him. “The next would be on cloture, and that would be Thursday afternoon,” Wicker told reporters Tuesday.
Wicker dismissed the affidavit claiming that Samantha Hegseth once hid in her closet out of fear for her safety from the nominee.
“I have not reviewed the document. My reaction is that I have grave doubts as to the substance,” he said, pointing to Samatha’s own statement that there was no “physical abuse” during her marriage. “I think the nomination is going to go forward and the next vote is going to be Thursday,” he said.
Wicker added that Democrats could delay a final vote on Hegseth until “late on Friday night.”
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), a retired Air Force lawyer and a key Republican voice on national security matters, dismissed the latest allegation.
“I heard what his wife said. It didn’t happen. I’m getting tired of this stuff being dropped at the last moment,” Graham said.
“You got the person who denies being physically abused. That’s it for me,” he said. Asked about the sworn claims from Hegseth’s former sister-in-law that the nominee frequently drank to excess, Graham dismissed the question: “Nah, I’m good,” adding that he’ll vote to confirm Hegseth.
Meanwhile, Democrats continued to pretend like the last-minute allegation was valid despite Samantha Hegseth’s denial.
“These firsthand observations are highly significant and credible and hopefully will persuade my Republican colleagues that Hegseth is unfit to be secretary of Defense,” said Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), a member of the Senate Armed Services panel.
“There was no question that Pete Hegseth is unqualified and unprepared to be secretary of Defense. The affidavit adds additional weight to a case that is already overwhelming against him,” he added.
Senators plan to move on Hegseth after voting earlier on Thursday to confirm former Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-Texas), as CIA director. The Hill noted. Ratcliffe, a former federal prosecutor, served a stint as director of national intelligence during Trump’s first term.
Republicans tried to confirm Ratcliffe to his post on Tuesday evening but met resistance from Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.).
“I just think we should have a full debate on Ratcliffe. A lot of us have real reservations about somebody with a history of politicizing intelligence like they demanded a full debate on most all of Biden’s Cabinet and sub-Cabinet nominees,” Murphy told The Hill.
“I think it’s pretty rich that Republicans blocked hundreds of Biden’s national security nominees and are now complaining when we’re simply asking for two days of debate on one of the most important members of Trump’s national security team,” he claimed.
Aside from a professional lip reader revealing the words Donald and Melania Trump shared during their dance at an inaugural ball, some netizens shared strong opinions about how the couple appeared.
During President Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20, 2025, he and First Lady Melania Trump shared a dance at the Liberty Ball. Lip reading expert Jeremy Freeman has weighed in with his analysis concerning the conversation the couple had during the event that also showcased the striking structural gown Melania donned, designed by her stylist.
As the orchestra played a slow, romantic tune at the ball, Donald and Melania took center stage. The couple swayed gently to the music, with the President of the United States (POTUS) wrapping his arm firmly around the waist of the First Lady of the United States (FLOTUS).
Melania rested her hand on her husband’s back, bringing herself closer to him as they shared an intimate moment and exchanged words in front of the crowd.
According to Freeman, who is an Expert Witness Forensic Lip Reader with certification from the Deafness Cognition and Language Research Centre at University College London, at some point, Melania stated, “Today is one we will never forget.”
Donald then replied “You’re right, I’ll learn, I’ll fight.” The exchange grew even more personal as Melania assured her support with, “I got you.”
Freeman, who has been lip reading professionally for over a decade, said Donald responded with, “We’ll see. Will you control it? Less tricky, less pushing away?” “It’s a no,” answered Melania, to which Donald reportedly acknowledged that he heard her.
For the Liberty Ball, which the duo attended before ending the evening at the Union Station’s Starlight Ball, Donald opted for a classic black tuxedo, paired with a crisp white shirt and a black bow tie.
Meanwhile, Melania stunned in a sophisticated white gown featuring bold black accents and an asymmetrical design that hugged her figure. She styled her hair in soft waves and completed the look with a striking black choker adorned with a diamond brooch.
The FLOTUS’ inaugural gown was the brainchild of her trusted stylist, Herve Pierre, who collaborated closely with Melania to bring her vision to life.
In a statement, Herve shared his gratitude for the opportunity and explained the inspiration behind the gown, saying, “It is a big honor […] It was clear that Mrs. Trump was gravitating toward a combination of black and white — true to her own style and vision.”
Local agencies, including schools and a utility company, responded to three fires in one day in San Diego County, managing evacuations and ensuring safety.
San Diego County faced three separate fires on January 21, prompting evacuations and firefighting efforts. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) provided updates on the fires in Lilac, Pala, and Friars.
The Lilac Fire reportedly ignited at 1:19 a.m. near Old Highway 395 and Lilac Road in Bonsall, burning 85 acres. Earlier in the day, the fire prompted evacuation orders and warnings. According to an update from CAL FIRE/San Diego County Fire on X (formerly Twitter), it is now 50% contained.
To contain the Lilac flames, firefighters deployed aerial resources, monitored the perimeter, and analyzed wind conditions. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire. With improved containment, the San Diego Sheriff (SDS) announced on X that all evacuation orders and warnings have been lifted. However, Old Highway 395 and parts of West Lilac Road remain closed until further notice.
The SDS said, “Please drive carefully, as firefighters will continue to work in the area to mitigate the hazards and strengthen control lines. Dust and noise will be present throughout the day and night. Smoke may be seen from areas where the fire is still burning, but there is no threat to the public.”
Meanwhile, the Pala Fire, which started at 2:16 a.m. near Old Highway 395 and Canonita Drive in Fallbrook, is 100% contained at 17 acres, according to CAL FIRE. The SDS also shared on X that evacuation orders have been lifted and urged residents to exercise caution on the road.
Following the Palo Fire, the Friars Fire ignited at 12:32 p.m. near Friars Road and Via De La Moda in San Diego, burning 3 acres before being declared 100% contained, according to CAL FIRE.
In an update shared afterward, the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department (SDFD) announced on X that no further evacuations were needed. However, residents previously evacuated must stay out of the area, and those nearby are urged to remain indoors for safety.
Later, the SDFD reported that crews were mopping up hot spots near Friars Road, west of State Route 163. While evacuation orders have been lifted, some road restrictions remain to support recovery efforts.Regarding evacuation reports, the SDS also announced that the temporary evacuation point for the Lilac Fire has moved from Castle Creek Country Club in Escondido to Riverview Church in Bonsall, where essentials are available for evacuees.
As recovery efforts continue, more local agencies have shared updates amid the reported fires. The San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) announced several school closures and evacuated the Linda Vista campus and Innovation Center as a precaution.
On January 21, schools in Julian Union Elementary, Julian Union High, Mountain Empire Unified, and Warner Unified districts were closed. Additional closures that day included Bonsall Unified, Spencer Valley, and Mt. Woodson Elementary in the Ramona Unified School District.
The SDCOE later updated its website to include January 22 closures for Mountain Empire Unified and Warner Springs School Districts due to ongoing power outages. “The safety of students and school staff is of the utmost importance to San Diego County school districts,” the statement read.
In response to fire-related disruptions, the San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) implemented Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS).The company acknowledged the challenges caused by the outages and encouraged residents to prioritize safety by checking its online outage map for real-time updates and restoration timelines.
The Trump inauguration ceremony earlier this week was viewed by millions of people not just in America but all over the world. People tuned in to watch Donald Trump take office with First Lady Melania Trump by his side.
As high-level government officials, politicians, and various celebrities gathered in Washington, D.C., for the festivities, people were tuned in to see how everything went.
Some viewers, however, had an interesting conspiracy theory they felt they needed to share with the world. Keep reading to learn more.
Melania Trump’s outfit for her husband, Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony earlier this week has been a major topic of discussion. While some believed the returning First Lady was making a bold fashion choice, others think there were different intentions behind the outfit choice.
Melania Trump wore a wide-brimmed dark-colored hat paired with a matching dark coat and black leather gloves. Social media users very quick to provide their two cents on what they believed the outfit to look like with some even comparing her look to that of McDonald’s ‘Hamburgler’ character.
But while some people were making harmless jokes about her choice of fashion for the big day, others were using it as proof for a conspiracy theory where some believe that Melania Trump has a body double. Those who believe the theory believe that Melania left her husband, Donald Trump, years ago, and there is now a body double for the First Lady who attends public gatherings at President Donald Trump’s side. Some others who believe the theory think the reason for a body double is because of the attempted assassination attempt on Trump last year, which prompted the use of a body double. Both conspiracies have never had any substantiation to them.
One person wrote that Melania’s choice of fashion did little to dispel the widespread body double conspiracy. They posted on X, “That Bolero hat Melania is wearing won’t do much to dispel the rumors that she has a body double#TrumpInauguration2025,” one person wrote.
Another user wrote in favor of the body double theory relating to the assassination attempt, “Interesting outfit today. That hat is so low on her brow, you cannot see her face clearly. I honestly feel like that’s a body double and not the real Melania. Wouldn’t surprise me if Trump knew of threats to assassinate him and decided not to put her in harms way.”
Another person posted with a lot of gusto, “THAT IS NOT MELANIA THEY PUT HER IN THE OPPENHEIMER A– HAT BECAUSE SHE LEFT TRUMPS A– AND THEY PUT A BODY DOUBLE IN HER PLACE BUT IT DOESNT RLLY LOOK LIKE HER SO THEY PUT HER IN THE OPPENHEIMER A– HAT SO THE MEDIA CANNOT TELL.”
Others were suspicious because according to them D.C. weather did not require a hat, one user wrote, “the melania body double only person wearing a hat in DC today”
But others were not as enthusiastic about this theory and had questions. One user questioned why the First Lady would miss out on such a momentous occasion, they wrote, “Bologna! There’s no Melania body double! Why would she miss all the fun??”
While another added, referring to the conspiracy theory, “Are you seeing the BS that is going around saying that hat and outfit was hiding a body double for Melania? Insanity[.] The ears tell the story”
It seems like there are multiple opinions and beliefs surrounding this conspiracy theory. What do you think about this theory? Let us know in the comments. And share this with others to see where their opinion on the matter lies!
Barron Trump can once again call himself the son of the President of the United States. His father, Donald Trump, was sworn in as the 47th president on Monday, January 20, with Barron and the rest of his family present for the entire day. Of course, with Barron having enrolled in college last year, the 18-year-old likely had to return to his education soon after.
Barron is often compared to his father, which is hard to avoid, considering he’s the son of a two-time president. In recent years, the the first thing people have tended to notice is how incredibly tall he is, yet during inauguration day, speculation has drawn attention to something else.
It’s well known that Donald Trump has long applied some sort of bronzer to his face, giving it his iconic orange appearance. Now, the staggering question following the inauguration is if Barron has started to do the same.
Barron has a lot of experience in the White House. The now-18-year-old son of Donald and Melania Trump lived with his parents at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue during his father’s first presidential term. But now, things are different.
Barron, who was kept entirely out of the spotlight after leaving the White House, has enrolled at Stern Business School at New York University and, therefore, won’t be living at the White House this time around. Melania, though, recently stated that her son is always welcome in Washington.
“Obviously he’ll have a bedroom there, but he’s an adult, he’s in college now. I think he will come and visit, yes,” Melania told Fox, adding that she’d love it if he’d bring friends.
“Yeah, whatever he would like to do, yes. I feel that as children, we have them till they are 18, 19 years old. We teach them, we guide them, and then we give them the wings to fly. And I always respect Barron’s yes and no, and what he likes to do, where he would like to be.”
Barron has benefitted from Secret Service protection since leaving the White House, and the 18-year-old will continue to have agents around him as he studies at NYU. The federal law enforcement agency previously confirmed that Barron would receive protection, though it didn’t specify exactly how.
Barron Trump “already has his own political ideas,” says source
He will continue living at Trump Tower, and Melania herself has confirmed that she will be spending time in New York with her son. Several sources tell People Magazine that Melania “will do everything she can” to support Barron’s well-being and help him get good grades. Meanwhile, the 18-year-old will not get the “full college experience” by living in a dorm.
“Living in a dorm in a college town isn’t in the stars for him at this point,” a source told People. “Barron already has his own political ideas. It all needs to be monitored in light of the situation.”
Another source told the news outlet that living at home is Barron’s best option now.
“Whether or not others think he is capable of being on his own, Melania feels it’s better to be around him as much as possible,” that source said. “I see that continuing.”
Melania’s reason for being close to Barron doesn’t just involve supporting him in his early days at NYU. Two other sources told People Magazine that his father’s return to the White House as President of the United States has played a part.
“Melania worries about the hate in the country and how it falls on her son, who is innocent of any of this,” the source said. “She is and has been a good sounding board for him. They talk about life as it is and how they are in the spotlight,” the source adds. “She tries to normalize his life. If that is even possible.”
Barron Trump praised by his father Donald on Inauguration Day
On Monday, Barron had to skip any classes he might have had, and he did so for an important reason. His father was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States, and Barron was with him during the inauguration and for the celebrations at Nationwide Arena later that day.
In his speech to his supporters, Donald Trump praised his son for helping him win the election. The president asked the crowd if they had heard of his “tall son,” to which they responded with loud cheers.
“He knew the youth vote. You know we won the youth vote by 36 points,” Trump said. “He was saying, ’dad, I got to go out and to this and that one and we did a lot of them. He respects them all, he understood it very well. He said ’dad, you got to go out and do Joe Rogan, all these guys that we did. They were all great, right? Barron, they were all great.”
Barron Trump and Joe Biden’s interaction spread like wildfire on the internet, with some reveling in the relative mystery of the encounter. Biden smiled as he interacted with Barron, but after they shared some words, his happy expression changed to a more solemn one. Social media users worldwide were dying to know what the president’s son had said. Moreover, Barron was praised online for how he greeted Biden and Kamala Harris.
“I was very impressed by that gesture and from someone so young. To go across the aisle and shake their hands was a very classy and mature thing to do. Good for Barron,” one person wrote.
Body language expert says Barron Trump showed off “super-confidence”
Another added: “Such a good young man… That gesture just tells you everything. Well done, Melania.”
As per the Daily Mail, on TikTok, the video of Barron and Joe had been viewed over half a million times as of Wednesday. One person joked: “Looks like he said, ‘You’re done.’”
Speaking with the Daily Mail, body language expert and communications coach Judi James has another theory. She explained that Barron “very confidently” and “charmingly” bent to shake hands with Biden.
“And although Biden’s face seems to fall as though Barron has passed on some kind of sinister threat or message, the truth was less dramatic as Barron seemed to be leaning to greet Kamala and Biden’s face was registering the fact that he’d finished his greeting ritual with Trump’s son,” James said.
She added that Barron’s humor and so-labeled “super-confidence” have led people to misread what Donald’s son really could’ve said to Biden.
“When he was introduced by his father, he stood like a rock star acknowledging the cheers and chants of his name and even cupped his ear to increase them. Which is probably why people might assume (wrongly I’d say) that he’s possibly making barbed comments on his way out here,” James continued.
Did Barron Trump have a ‘fake tan’ during the inauguration?
Moreover, James explained that Barron was “working as a sweeper” during the inauguration, a role he frequently takes on when appearing with his father at any event.
“This means he tends to arrive and leave behind his parents, but instead of just walking off behind them as he did when he was younger, he spends time shaking hands and offering gracious-looking words,” James continued, concluding by saying that “defines” Barron’s presence and status without having to compete with his father.
“He lets everyone know that he is becoming a force to be reckoned with in his own right and because of his height and the increase in his confidence signals, it gives him a rather princely air, presence-wise. Biden had been on the receiving end of a flame-thrower speech from Trump, where he had sat in a variety of poses including pained deflation and bravado smiling as his entire four years in office were scorched to ashes.”
Barron, as mentioned, is extremely tall, and his height is something that people. usually talk about following his appearance at events. At the inauguration, he was seen speaking with many people, but there was one detail regarding his appearance that is said to have left people baffled. Express US wrote that Barron was sporting a new ‘healthy glow,’ with the Mirror even claiming Barron had a ‘bronze’ tan — just like his father.
Why Donald Trump is wearing bronzer
When attending the church ceremony in St John’s Episcopal Church on Monday, Barron was seen with bronzed cheekbones and a sparkling forehead, which many compared to Donald. Donald Trump’s orange face has been reported on for years. When the current president was younger, his face was paler because he didn’t wear bronzer.
So why did Donald start wearing bronzer to begin with? Speaking with the Mirror, celebrity makeup artist Safia Cox claimed it could be related to his confidence levels.
“I think he uses some sort of fake tan or tinted moisturizer with a bronzer. I 100% do not think it’s sun beds as it would be a completely different tone,” Cox said.
“I think it’s some sort of fake tan or some sort of tinted moisturizer with bronzer, and he’s then used powder with it. It’s definitely some sort of cream product that he uses and has probably mattified it after because it’s so orange. You can see the rim around his face. If you look closely at his hairline, it’s very pale, and that’s not from sunbeds; he’s slapping some sort of cream product on.”
“He has orange blindness”
Cox guessed Trump has “some sort of fake tan or some sort of tinted moisturizer with bronzer,” which he then uses a powder to apply. She continued by explaining that close to his hairline, you can see that it’s “very pale.”
“I think his makeup has changed over the years, and I think it as he’s got older and potentially a little more insecure. The ever-changing orange hue has become the subject of many internet discussions and memes – with people wondering why he likes to be so orange,” Cox continued, concluding that some have argued that Trump uses more bronzer when stressed.
“He has orange blindness or fake tan blindness, and I don’t think he realizes,” the makeup expert told the Mirror. “It’s not a nice bronze, he doesn’t look like he’s just hopped off a plane he just looks like he’s layered on fake tan. It’s bizarre; he’s either really insecure, and it’s for confidence and thinking he looks good, or he’s being clever and doing it to get people to talk about him.”

At Monday’s inauguration, all eyes weren’t just on the political heavyweights but also on Barron Trump, who had a brief yet intriguing moment with Joe Biden.
The 6-foot-9 first son leaned down to shake hands with the departing president, but what really sent social media into a frenzy was the whisper that followed.
Barron Trump is once again making headlines – this time at his father’s January 20, 2025 inauguration, where he shared an unexpected moment with former president Joe Biden.
The 18-year-old New York University student, who was only 10 when Donald Trump was first sworn in as president, attended the DC event alongside his mother, Melania Trump, and his older half-siblings.
Barron, a towering Trump at 6-foot-9, played up the crowds when Trump was sworn in as the 47th president, soaking up the praise and energy coming from his dad and republican supporters inside the U.S. Capitol Rotunda.
“I have a very tall son,” Trump said as he introduced Barron – the only child he shares with Melania – to an audience that erupted in cheers.
“He knew the youth vote. We won the youth vote by 36 points. He was saying: ‘Dad, you have to go out and do this one or that one.’ We did a lot of them. He respects them all, he understood them very well.”
Acknowledging the support, Barron – who cast his first vote in the November 2024 elections – is seen waving his arms at the crowds, grinning over the applause.
The handshake and whisper After Trump was sworn in for his second term, the young man was spotted doing something that rocked the internet.
Barron made his way through the crowd, straying from his father for just one minute – long enough to approach the departing president and former Vice President Kamala Harris.
Next, he reaches down and like a proper first son, he shakes their hands, and before moving along, he whispered something into the 82-year-old man’s ear.
While Barron walked away, briefly pausing to look back and confidently nod, Biden, who initially had a smile on his face, quickly shifted to a serious and somber expression, leaving fans desperate to know what was said.
What did Barron Trump say? A now viral TikTok clip captured the brief but fascinating moment and social media is obsessed with the footage, sparking speculation about what exactly went down.
Referring to Trump’s famous line on his former reality TV show The Apprentice, one netizen writes, “You’re fired.”
“Game over,” offers a second user in the comments section of the TikTok clip that’s been viewed 3.7 million times in less than 24 hours. A third suggests, “Barron probably said, ‘Your move, old man.’”
Another says he whispered, “Checkmate.”
Others begged to get a lip reader on board, and many were impressed by how the youngest Trump carried himself.
“Priceless, that kid is gangsta already,” writes one, while a second says: “I don’t know what he said, but I bet I want it on a shirt.”
Meanwhile, other netizens gushed over Barron and his “boss move,” saying “he’s the future.”
“The nod and look back, priceless. That’s purebred leadership,” shares one. A second pens, “he’s got leadership written all over him, he’s going to do amazing things in his life.”
Another adds, “This kid is going to be making big moves in his future.”
As the clip continues to make the rounds online, people are demanding answers. Will Barron ever reveal what he said? Given his typically reserved nature, it’s unlikely.

The inauguration of Trump as the 47th President of the United States was an event millions of people, not just across America but the entire world, tuned in to watch.
During the many events and ceremonies, there was one that some people are paying a lot of attention to; a sermon delivered at the inaugural prayer service. The sermon touched on a few topics people were shocked to hear at such an event.
Keep reading to learn more.
On Tuesday, during a prayer service at Washington’s National Cathedral, the Episcopal bishop Mariann Budde delivered a sermon that surprised quite a lot of people. In the sermon, she directly addressed President Donald Trump with a few requests.
“Let me make one final plea, Mr. President,” Bishop Mariann Budde said in the latter part of her 15-minute sermon. “Millions have put their trust in you. And as you told the nation yesterday, you have felt the providential hand of a loving God. In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now.” As she said this, she appeared to look toward the president.
“There are gay, lesbian and transgender children in Democratic, Republican, and independent families, some who fear for their lives,” she said, referring to the concerns of the LGBTQIA+ community with Trump’s administration.
This sermon is a day after Trump issued a slate of executive orders, one of which was dedicated to “recognizing that women are biologically distinct from men,” another one which called a national emergency at the country’s southern border, and several which had to do with immigration including one which meant to do away with birthright citizenship.
In her sermon, Budde addressed these orders and made a plea to President Donald Trump.
“The people who pick our crops and clean our office buildings; who labor in poultry farms and meat packing plants; who wash the dishes after we eat in restaurants and work the night shifts in hospitals, they – they may not be citizens or have the proper documentation. But the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals. They pay taxes and are good neighbors,” she said in her sermon.
Budde has been critical of Trump before. She made headlines in 2020 when Trump took a photo outside of a boarded up St. John’s Epsicopal Church while holding a bible. Law enforcement had used chemical agents to disburse people protesting racial justice. Budde was angered and said in a statement, “Everything he has said and done is to inflame violence… We need moral leadership, and he’s done everything to divide us.”
While President Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance sat through the sermon quietly without betraying too much on their faces, Republican U.S. Representative Mike Collins from Georgia took to X and wrote, “The person giving this sermon should be added to the deportation list.”
Towards the end of her sermon, Budde said, “I ask you to have mercy, Mr. President, on those in our communities whose children fear that their parents will be taken away. And that you help those who are fleeing war zones and persecution in their own lands to find compassion and welcome here. Our God teaches us that we are to be merciful to the stranger, for we were all once strangers in this land.”
When Trump was later asked what he thought about Budde’s sermon, he told White House reporters that he “didn’t think it was a good service.”

When the news that Carrie Underwood would be performing at Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony hit the airwaves, a lot of people did not seem to be happy about it.
At the actual event, however, it seems that the singer ran into some problems which she had to figure out on the fly.
Keep reading to know more about what happened…
Carrie Underwood was the first performer to perform after Donald J. Trump gave his 30-minute inaugural address, marking the beginning of his second term as President of the United States.
The singer was standing in front of former President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. She was to sing “America the Beautiful” when they ran into a technical issue with the singer’s background music which forced her to go a capella with the song. She did not let the technical malfunction faze her as she hit the big notes in the song seamlessly.
The singer wore a sleeveless white dress which draped over her. She hit the notes beautifully and a lot of people who were gathered in the Capitol Rotunda sang along with her.
After Underwood concluded her singing, she shook Biden’s hand, who seemed to have mouthed the words “great job” to her. Carrie Underwood then shook hands with President Donald Trump and vice president JD Vance.
The country music superstar’s participation in the inauguration day celebrations was not appreciated by everyone. She said in a statement, “I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event. I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”
Many of those who were disappointed in the singer were from the LGBTQ+ community who had considered Carrie Underwood an ally because of her 2017 son, “Love Wins.” The lyrics of the song criticized divisive politics, “Politics and prejudice/How the hell’d it ever come to this?” and “When everybody’s got to pick a side/It don’t matter if you’re wrong or right.” The song was considered to signal that Underwood supported same-sex marriage.
I mean…let’s just have one more conversation about what freaking class act @carrieunderwood was today. Not only did she wing it flawlessly, she invited the crowd, and she didn’t run away with the song or add anything crazy. It was a group project and she sounded like an angel pic.twitter.com/TPY9Oi8qVK
While there were many who criticized her choice, Whoopi Goldberg on “The View” said while she would not be watching the inauguration, she believed it was Carrie Underwood’s right to choose where she wanted to perform. She said, “If I believe I have the right to make up my mind to go perform some place. I believe she has the same right.”
What do you think of Carrie Underwood’s performance at the 2025 Presidential Inauguration day? Let us know in the comments.
Following President Donald Trump’s critical remarks about her sermon at the National Prayer Service on January 21, 2025, Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde has addressed the controversy. In her sermon, Bishop Budde urged President Trump to “have mercy” on marginalized groups, including LGBTQ+ individuals and immigrants, highlighting the fears these communities face under current policies.
In response to President Trump’s characterization of her as a “Radical Left hard line Trump hater,” Bishop Budde clarified that her message was intended to promote compassion and unity. She emphasized that her appeal was rooted in the teachings of Jesus, focusing on love and mercy for all individuals, regardless of their background.
Bishop Budde’s response underscores her commitment to advocating for vulnerable populations and fostering dialogue, even in the face of political criticism. Her call for empathy and understanding serves as a reminder of the role religious leaders can play in bridging divides and promoting social justice.
Donald Trump issued a scathing rebuke to the bishop who berated him, slamming her and demanding an apology to the public. The President slammed Episcopal Bishop of Washington Mariann Budde hours after she admitted to CNN that she used the religious event to deliver a political lecture. ‘The so-called Bishop who spoke at the National Prayer Service on Tuesday morning was a Radical Left hard line Trump hater,’ he railed. Barron Trump hilariously crashed a group photo with Ivanka Trump, Tiffany Trump, Lara Trump and Michael Boulos moments before his dad, Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on Jan. 20. The fun moment was captured by Washington Post journalist Emily Davies and shared on X.
In the video Ivanka, Tiffany, Lara and Michael smile for a photo at the U.S. Capitol as the 18-year-old sneaks up behind them.
When Ivanka turns around she spots her little brother and lets out a big laugh. “That’s the best,” Ivanka said. Barron returned to the inaugural stage Monday for the first time in eight years.
The last time he was at an inauguration was when his father was sworn into office as the 45th President of the United States in 2017, when he was just 10 years old.
Following the National Prayer Service held at Washington National Cathedral on January 21, 2025, President Donald Trump expressed strong disapproval of the sermon delivered by Episcopal Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde. During the service, Bishop Budde urged the President to “have mercy” on marginalized groups, including LGBTQ+ individuals and immigrants. She highlighted the fears these communities face, stating, “Have mercy on those who are afraid now.”
In response, President Trump took to Truth Social, labeling Bishop Budde as a “Radical Left hard line Trump hater” and describing her sermon as “nasty” and “ungracious.” He criticized the inclusion of political themes in what he believed should have been a unifying religious service. Additionally, Trump found the service “very boring and uninspiring,” and demanded an apology from Bishop Budde and her church.
Bishop Budde, who has previously voiced opposition to President Trump’s policies, intended her sermon to promote compassion and unity. She emphasized the importance of showing mercy to those living in fear due to policy changes, particularly within the LGBTQ+ and immigrant communities.
The exchange underscores the ongoing tension between the Trump administration and certain religious leaders advocating for social justice and inclusivity. It also highlights the broader national debate on the intersection of politics and religion, especially concerning the treatment of marginalized groups.
Barron Trump was seen greeting Joe Biden and Kamala Harris with a handshake after his father Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States
Barron Trump came face to face with Joe Biden just moments after his father Donald Trump took the oath as the 47th president of the United States.
At the ripe age of 78, Donald Trump was inaugurated today (January 20) at the Capitol building by Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts.
With his right hand elevated, Trump swore in while his wife, Melania, stood by holding two weighty tomes: one a gift from his mother and the other, the revered Lincoln Bible that historical figures like Abraham Lincoln utilised back in 1861.
Before the ceremony unfolded, Trumps family procession made their way into the Capitol Rotunda, finding their seats in anticipation of the impending inauguration. The gathering featured his sons Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr, as well as his daughter Ivanka Trump.
But it was the youngest Barron who caught the attention of viewers who praised him for his politeness. He was seen extending a courteous handshake to then-outgoing President Joe Biden and former Vice-President Kamala Harris following his father’s swearing-in.
Lip reader Jeremy Freeman revealed that the 18-year-old cordially greeted Mr Biden with “G’day to you sir”, before turning to Kamala Harris and saying, “Ma’am, good day”
The video capturing Barron’s behaviour sent shockwaves across X with many praising him for his “class”, reports the Irish Star.
“Barron has been raised right,” one said. Meanwhile, a second added: “Barron Trump 2044 campaign starts now.”
X user Miss Meg could not hold back her approval, posting: “Such a classy, well brought up young man. As a mother, I am moved. God bless him.

Her black-and-white ensemble, designed by Adam Lippes, featured a tailored dark navy double-breasted coat. She paired it with black gloves and heels, and a wide-brimmed, and double-faced wool boater hat with an ivory ribbon stood out.

Love her Christmas show at the WH. [sic] The hat and dress were austere and inappropriate.”However, not everyone disapproved of her look. One person said, “Melania looks incredible!!” Another gushed, “Melania!!! Fabulous that hat is everything [sic],” while someone else wrote, “Melania looks so elegant.”
Surprisingly, according to reports, the first lady’s hat almost didn’t make it to the inauguration. The hat, designed by Eric Javits, was a custom piece requested by Hervé, Melania’s stylist, based on one of the latter’s summer boater hats.Disaster struck when the package containing the hat arrived wet and crushed. Eric had to recreate the accessory in under four days. The replacement hat made it on time after Hervé personally transported it from Miami to the first lady at Mar-a-Lago in the days leading up to the inauguration

Elon Musk has issued a statement after being accused of giving a “Nazi salute” during yesterday’s inauguration for Donald Trump.
Trump was officially sworn in on Monday, January 20, and will now begin his second term as President of the United States. Naturally, there was plenty to talk about following yesterday’s swearing in, with Trump making typically lofty promises as for the next four years.
Yet though some people chose to focus on First Lady Melania Trump’s choice of hat, while others zoned in on just how much Vice President J.D. Vance’s daughter resembles her father, it was arguably Elon Musk who caused the most stir online.
The Tesla CEO and SpaceX founder, who used his social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) to champion Trump’s cause in the run up to the election, was at the Capital One Arena in Washington ahead of yesterday’s Inauguration Day parade.
Delivering a rousing speech during which he spoke about sending the first human to Mars and planting an American flag on the “Red Planet”, Musk then courted controversy with a gesture that saw him thump his chest and fire his right arm out towards the sky.
“Thank you for making it happen. Thank you, my heart goes out to you,” Musk then said, before turning back to the audience and repeating the gesture towards the US flag.
The historical parallels that can be drawn with such a salute are obvious, and it wasn’t long before the internet erupted with reactions. CNN anchor Kasie Hunt described the move as ‘not something you typically see at American rallies’, and said it was ‘evocative of things that we have seen through history’.
On Elon Musk’s own platform, X, people were a little bit more brazen with their opinions, accusing the 53-year-old of having performed a “Sieg Heil” as “clear as day”.
Anti-Defamation League, the antisemitism watchdog, moved to defend Musk, writing on X: “It seems that [Musk] make an awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm, not a Nazi salute, but again, we appreciate that people on on edge.
“This is a delicate moment. It’s a new day and yet so many are on edge. Our politics are inflamed, and social media only adds to the anxiety.
“In this moment, all sides should give one another a bit of grace, perhaps even the benefit of the doubt, and take a breath. This is a new beginning. Let’s hope for healing and work toward unity in the months and years ahead.”
US Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was quick to clap back at the Anti-Defamation League, writing: “Just to be clear, you are defending a Heil Hitler salute that was performed and repeated for emphasis and clarity.
“People can officially stop listening to you as any sort of reputable source of information now. You work for them. Thank you for making that crystal clear to all.”
Musk himself then accused Cortez of having: ‘just 100 percent lost her marbles’.
Another X user wrote: “Can we please retire the calling people a Nazi thing? It didn’t work during the election, it’s not working now, it’s tired, boring, and old material, you’ve burned out its effect, people don’t feel shocked by it anymore, the wolf has been cried too many times.”
Under that comment, Musk replied: “yeah exactly’ and a yawn emoji before adding in a follow-up “Frankly, they need better dirty tricks. The ‘everyone is Hitler’ attack is sooo tired.”
During an impromptu address following his inauguration on January 20, 2025, President Donald Trump directed sharp criticism at former Representative Liz Cheney. In his speech, Trump labeled Cheney a “radical war hawk” and mocked her recent political endeavors. He suggested that Cheney, who had campaigned against him, would be ineffective in a combat situation, stating, “Let’s put her with a rifle standing there with nine barrels shooting at her, OK? And let’s see how she feels about it, you know, when the guns are trained on her face.”
These remarks were met with significant backlash. Liz Cheney responded by condemning Trump’s rhetoric, stating, “This is how dictators destroy free nations. They threaten those who speak against them with death.”
The Arizona Attorney General, Kris Mayes, announced an investigation into whether Trump’s comments constituted a death threat under state law.
This incident underscores the escalating tensions between President Trump and his political adversaries, particularly those within the Republican Party. It also raises concerns about the use of violent imagery in political discourse and its potential implications for democratic institutions.
Trump’s inauguration served as both a political event and a fashion showcase. Here, we evaluate the standout style successes and notable missteps among the attendees. Best Dressed Highlights
Melania Trump Melania Trump captured attention in a navy blue outfit designed by Adam Lippes, featuring a stylish hat by Eric Javits adorned with white trim. She rounded off the look with black leather gloves and delicate diamond earrings.
Jill Biden Dr. Jill Biden made a memorable appearance in a Ralph Lauren purple wrap coat, paired with a matching dress and elegant suede heels. Her ensemble’s vibrant color symbolized a message of unity.

Kristi Noem Governor Kristi Noem of South Dakota opted for a light blue dress with detailed neckline accents, reminiscent of Melania Trump’s attire from her 2016 inauguration, suggesting a respectful nod to former inauguration styles.
Carrie Underwood During her performance, Carrie Underwood dazzled in a silver, sleeveless gown that draped gracefully. Her look was completed with classic Hollywood waves and striking diamond earrings that sparkled under the lights.
Worst Dressed Overview
Lauren Sánchez Lauren Sánchez experienced a fashion faux pas with a winter-white blazer that was too tight, leading to an unintended reveal of her lacy white bra. Despite her intentions, her appearance next to Jeff Bezos became a talking point for the wrong reasons.
John Fetterman Senator John Fetterman from Pennsylvania took a too-casual approach with gray shorts, a black hoodie, and sneakers. His laid-back outfit starkly contrasted with the formal vibe of the day.
Priscilla Chan Mark Zuckerberg’s wife, Priscilla Chan, donned a conservative pale blue wool set that seemed overly boxy, paired with a classic pearl necklace. Her style choice was more subdued than expected for the occasion.
During President Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20, 2025, former President George W. Bush’s animated facial expressions became a viral sensation. Seated next to former President Barack Obama, Bush was seen raising his eyebrows, winking, and laughing, capturing the attention of viewers and sparking widespread discussion online.
Jenna Bush Hager, Bush’s daughter and co-host of the “Today” show, shared insights into her father’s viral moments. She revealed that their family group chat was buzzing with messages about his expressions, humorously noting that Obama might have been a “bad influence” on her father during the ceremony. Jenna likened watching her father at such events to being a “stage mom” at a child’s performance, focusing intently on his behavior.
This isn’t the first time George W. Bush’s candid moments at public events have attracted attention. In 2017, during President Trump’s first inauguration, he was famously seen struggling with a rain poncho, a moment that quickly went viral and showcased his relatable, down-to-earth demeanor.
The camaraderie between Bush and Obama during the inauguration was evident, with their lighthearted interactions serving as a reminder of unity amidst political differences. Jenna Bush Hager emphasized this sentiment, highlighting the importance of such friendships in divisive times.
At President Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20, 2025, Lauren Sánchez, fiancée of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, garnered significant attention for her choice of attire. Sánchez arrived at the Capitol Rotunda wearing a white pantsuit paired with a lacy bustier, a combination that many deemed revealing for the formal occasion. The bustier, resembling a high-end Alexander McQueen piece valued at approximately $1,800, became a focal point of discussion.
The ensemble sparked a wave of reactions on social media and from public figures. Critics labeled the outfit as inappropriate for the solemnity of the event, with some suggesting it lacked the decorum expected at such ceremonies. Notably, former television host Megyn Kelly commented on Sánchez’s attire, stating, “You look like a hooker!”
This sentiment was echoed by various online commentators who questioned the suitability of the outfit.
In response to the criticism, Sánchez subtly addressed the backlash by sharing a photo of herself and Bezos at the inauguration on her social media platforms, accompanied by the caption, “An honor to witness history.” This move was interpreted by some as a graceful acknowledgment of the controversy, choosing to focus on the significance of the event rather than directly addressing the negative comments.
This incident highlights the ongoing discourse surrounding fashion choices of public figures, especially women, and the scrutiny they face regarding appropriateness and expression. Sánchez’s attire at the inauguration serves as a recent example of how personal style can become a topic of national conversation, reflecting broader societal attitudes towards fashion and propriety.
On January 21, 2025, President Donald Trump attended a national prayer service at Washington National Cathedral, where Episcopal Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde delivered a sermon urging compassion for marginalized communities, including LGBTQ+ individuals and immigrants. Bishop Budde emphasized the importance of mercy towards those living in fear, stating, “Have mercy on those who are afraid now.”
President Trump’s reaction to the sermon was dismissive; he described the service as “not too exciting” and suggested it “could have been better.”
This response highlights the ongoing tension between the Trump administration and religious leaders advocating for social justice and inclusivity.
Bishop Budde has previously criticized President Trump’s actions, notably during the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests when he used St. John’s Episcopal Church for a photo opportunity without prior notice to the church’s clergy. She condemned the act as a misuse of religious symbols for political purposes.
The exchange at the prayer service underscores the complex relationship between political leadership and religious institutions, especially concerning issues of human rights and social equity. As President Trump embarks on his second term, interactions like these may continue to shape the discourse on the role of faith communities in public policy.
On March 27, 2020, President Donald Trump signed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act into law, marking the largest economic relief package in U.S. history. The legislation provided $2.2 trillion in direct aid to individuals, businesses, and healthcare institutions affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. President Trump noted that, when combined with additional measures and Federal Reserve actions, the total economic stimulus could reach $6.2 trillion.
Key Components of the CARES Act:
Direct Payments: Individuals earning less than $99,000 annually received direct cash payments, with a typical family of four receiving $3,400.
Small Business Support: Allocated $350 billion for job retention loans to small businesses, with provisions for loan forgiveness if businesses continued paying their employees.
Unemployment Benefits: Expanded unemployment benefits by $250 billion, ensuring that laid-off workers received 100% of their salaries for up to four months.
Industry Support: Provided $500 billion in assistance for industries severely impacted by the pandemic, including restrictions on stock buybacks and executive compensation.
Healthcare Funding: Directed over $100 billion to support hospitals, doctors, and nurses, bolstering the healthcare system’s capacity to respond to the crisis.
The passage of the CARES Act was met with widespread approval, as it aimed to mitigate the economic fallout from the pandemic. However, some critics expressed concerns about the long-term implications of such substantial government spending on the national debt. Despite these concerns, the immediate priority was to provide relief to millions of Americans facing unprecedented challenges due to the pandemic.

What happens when you pair the cool charisma of Henry Winkler with the wild, scene-stealing energy of Michael Keaton? You get pure comedic gold!
Night Shift (1982) wasn’t just Ron Howard’s directorial debut — it was the beginning of a cult classic. Winkler and Keaton’s electric chemistry lights up the screen, Shelley Long brings her irresistible charm, and if you look closely, you might even spot a young Kevin Costner among the chaos….
But the real surprise? Shelley Long’s unforgettable ”magic in the kitchen” moment. Ready to dive into the secrets behind this iconic film? Let’s get started!
From morgue to mayhem
Released in 1982, Night Shift is a quirky comedy classic that introduced audiences to Michael Keaton’s unforgettable charm and showcased Ron Howard’s budding talent as a director.
Set in a New York City morgue, the film follows the unlikely partnership of Chuck Lumley (Henry Winkler), a mild-mannered night shift worker, and Bill Blazejowski (Michael Keaton), his eccentric and wildly ambitious new coworker.
When the two stumble upon an unconventional business opportunity — turning the morgue into a base for a high-end escort service — they find themselves in hilarious and unexpected situations.
What makes this movie stand out isn’t just the clever humor, but the amazing chemistry between the three leads. Each of their characters is incredibly likeable, making it all the more enjoyable to watch.
Not many people remember the wild and crazy young Michael Keaton, but Night Shift is a perfect snapshot of him in the 1980s — goofy, funny, and undeniably full of charm. The comedy movie was Keaton’s breakthrough role and first major starring part, and he was practically unknown at the time, having only appeared in a B-comedy and a CBS comedy series called Report to Murphy.
”I don’t how many times I had to go back in and audition,” he recalls. ”It was just callback after callback after callback.”
Getty Images
In the end, Keaton managed to convince the writers and producers. With his fast-talking style, broad Irish face, thinning brown hair, and darting green eyes, Keaton was brilliant as Bill “Blaze” Blazejowski. His timing and energy were spot on – but another detail helped too:
“I came along just at the time when the changeover from television to film actors was becoming possible,” Keaton later reflected on his rise to stardom.
To really get into the groove of his character, Michael Keaton would crank up the volume and blast Bruce Springsteen, especially ”10th Avenue Freeze-Out” from the Born to Run album.
On opening day, he recalls, ”I purposely went to see it alone. I wanted to sit right there in the middle of the theater in the afternoon, and it was wonderful. I don’t know any other word to use, to tell you the truth.”
The man who helped Keaton steal the movie
Ron Howard really hit the jackpot when he cast Keaton for Night Shift.
In scene after scene, Keaton upstaged the more seasoned Henry Winkler, who was already a TV star known for his role as “The Fonz.” As critics raved about Keaton’s performance, the door to Hollywood swung wide open for him. But Keaton’s success — and his entire film career — might not have been launched if it weren’t for Henry Winkler’s subtle yet invaluable support.
“Henry was offered either part and he opted for the quieter one,” Ron Howard revealed in an interview with the Boston Globe.

“Then he helped Michael steal the picture. He gave Michael a lot of choices. With some of the bits, he’d tell Michael, ‘I know (you’ll get laughs) if you take this routine one step further.’”
Henry Winkler chose to play the timid morgue director in Night Shift as a deliberate contrast to his iconic, tough-guy character, Fonzie. As he put it on Twitter, ”I thought I’d play Richie Cunningham for once.”
Henry Winkler didn’t like Keaton
t’s surprising that Henry Winkler and Michael Keaton never reunited for another film after Night Shift, given the undeniable chemistry between them. Their dynamic on-screen was hilarious, memorable, and perfectly balanced.
The reason behind their lack of future collaborations may lie in how their relationship began during the filming of Night Shift. When Henry first read with Michael, he wasn’t entirely sure about working with him. As he later reflected, according to Howard: ”The guy’s talented, but I don’t know if I’m comfortable working with him.”

Ron Howard reassured him that this discomfort was actually a good thing, as it mirrored the dynamic between their characters in the film — Chuck was certainly not comfortable with Bill. Over time, their initial unease faded, but that early tension added an authentic, off-balance texture to their onscreen relationship.
Big names that almost landed the iconic role
It’s said that both Kurt Russell and Mickey Rourke auditioned for the role of Bill Blazejowski. And according to Ron Howard, Michael Keaton wasn’t the first choice. They had also tried to recruit John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, and Bill Murray for the part, even reaching out to John Candy. However, none of them were interested, either because they felt the role was too small or decided not to pursue it.
”Lowell Ganz, one of the writers, had seen Michael work, and said to me, “Keaton is going to be a star for somebody, and he might as well be a star for us,”” Ron Howard shared.
Improvised scene
Throughout Night Shift, you can’t help but feel like Michael Keaton was just making things up as he went along — he’s got that natural comic genius that brings hilarious, spontaneous moments to life. One of the best improvised moments happens when a blind man asks Winkler and Keaton for spare change, and Keaton’s response? He writes the guy a check. Classic Keaton!
Did you spot Ron Howard in the movie?
Ron Howard clearly nailed his directorial debut, which raked in a solid $21,095,638 at the box office. But the former child actor couldn’t resist making a cameo of his own. If you look closely, you’ll spot Ron and his wife Cheryl sharing a smooch in front of Chuck’s (Henry Winkler) apartment building.
As for the subway scene, that’s Ron Howard himself playing the annoying saxophonist. And of course, it wouldn’t be a Ron Howard film without a cameo from his brother, Clint Howard, who plays the quirky character Jeffrey in the film.
Kevin Costner shows up
Night Shift is packed with familiar faces in some pretty early roles!
Kevin Costner makes a blink-and-you-miss-it appearance as a frat boy at the morgue party. It’s a non-speaking role, but you can spot him rocking a checkered shirt, a college cardigan tied around his waist, and a cup in hand — just hanging out while Michael Keaton does his thing, balancing a bottle on his head.
And then there’s Shannen Doherty, making her first appearance in a feature film as a “Blue Bell” (kind of like a Girl Scout) in an elevator scene, delivering a single line. You wouldn’t have guessed it, but these little moments from future stars add some extra fun to this quirky classic.
The birthplace of an iconic song
Did you know Night Shift was the first place where we heard the classic tune “That’s What Friends Are For”? Originally recorded by Rod Stewart for the 1982 soundtrack, it went on to become a global hit when Dionne Warwick, Elton John, Gladys Knight, and Stevie Wonder joined forces in 1986. And not only did their version soar to #1 on the Billboard charts, but it also raised over $3 million for AIDS research.
Meanwhile, the film kicks off with the catchy Night Shift theme by Quarterflash and features classic jams like Van Halen’s “You Really Got Me” and a live version of “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” by the Rolling Stones.
Shelley Long didn’t want to play a prostitute
For those who don’t remember or haven’t seen Night Shift, Shelley Long plays Belinda, a sweet but tough prostitute who lives next door to Chuck (Henry Winkler). When her pimp is killed, Belinda teams up with Chuck and Bill (Michael Keaton), who decide to help her by managing her business in a totally wild way.
Ron Howard had taken a liking to Shelley Long after her performance in Caveman (1981). However, when he wanted her for Night Shift (1982), she was off filming another movie in California. Despite this, Howard convinced her to take a short two-day break and come to Hollywood.

During that time, the sweet-faced actress auditioned for the role of Belinda, the female lead, and was asked to return the following day to meet Henry Winkler. Although she was initially hesitant about playing a prostitute, Long took the time to do some research and ultimately accepted the role.
”She came to us dressed like a hooker, read with Henry and was terrific right away. Their scenes were already cooking, even on the videotape,” Ron said.
”The happiest, most wholesome hooker…”
In the early ’80s, comedies about prostitution were unexpectedly popular. Around the same time Night Shift was released, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas—a movie based on the Broadway musical — starring Burt Reynolds and Dolly Parton, also hit theaters. The following summer, Tom Cruise became a star in Risky Business, where he turned his parents’ house into a brothel.
Shelley Long’s portrayal of Belinda, a prostitute who wins Chuck’s heart, was dubbed by critics as ”the happiest, most wholesome hooker you’ll ever see on screen” — with some even joking she could lead a Girl Scout troop.
The classic egg scene
Night Shift is full of little goofs, and one hilarious moment involves Shelley Long’s character, Belinda, making breakfast for Chuck. The scene where Chuck first sees Belinda cooking in her underwear is priceless – and Henry Winkler’s reaction is anything but Fonz-like!
After that, Belinda asks what kind of eggs he wants, and Chuck says scrambled. When she starts cooking, she’s clearly making fried eggs.
Shannen Doherty’s character
Here’s another mistake from the film that only those who love details might have noticed: Shannen Doherty’s character is credited as a ”Bluebird,” but Chuck mistakenly calls her a “Bluebell” instead.
Guess he got his birds and flowers mixed up.
”Part of my anatomy he likes”
While her character Belinda was fine with it, Shelley Long wasn’t exactly thrilled to walk around in her underwear. “For me, when the cameras weren’t rolling, it was hard,” she admitted.
She also jokingly asked what her husband thought about her running around in her undies in Night Shift. “He didn’t have trouble with me running around in my skivvies— that’s a part of my anatomy he likes,” she said with a laugh.
The subway mistake
Many scenes in Night Shift were of course filmed in New York, but the morgue was actually built on a specially constructed set in Hollywood, California.
Many parts were shot around Times Square in Manhattan, New York City, like when Bill finds prospective clients outside theaters and when Chuck, Bill, and Belinda run away at the end.
However, there’s a little mistake that sneaked in during the Big Apple scenes.
In one part, Bill says, “this is my stop,” and gets off the subway while Chuck stays on. But if you pay close attention, the sign next to Bill says the train is the Times Square – Grand Central shuttle, which doesn’t make any stops in between.
This is a movie that couldn’t exist with any other cast. The chemistry between Henry Winkler, Shelley Long, and Michael Keaton is pure magic, bringing humor, heart, and unforgettable moments to life. Night Shift isn’t just a comedy — it’s a story of unlikely friendships, personal growth, and finding connection in the most unexpected places.

During President Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20, 2025, former President Joe Biden was observed making the sign of the cross, a gesture traditionally associated with seeking divine protection or expressing disbelief. This occurred while Senator Amy Klobuchar spoke about the peaceful transition of power, a topic particularly poignant given the political climate. Biden’s action was captured on video and widely shared, prompting discussions about its intended meaning.
This was not the first instance of Biden employing this gesture in a political context. In September 2021, during a campaign event in California, he made the sign of the cross after mentioning former President Trump, eliciting laughter from the audience.
Similarly, in November 2023, while addressing auto workers in Belvidere, Illinois, Biden used the gesture upon referencing his predecessor, again generating amusement among attendees.
These instances suggest that Biden utilizes the sign of the cross as a lighthearted, symbolic expression, particularly when addressing topics or individuals associated with controversy or challenges during his political tenure.
During President Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20, 2025, former President Joe Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris were seated together, maintaining a composed demeanor throughout the ceremony. At one point, President Trump referenced a past incident, stating that Biden couldn’t “manage even a simple crisis at home.” In response, both Biden and Harris refrained from clapping, with Biden leaning towards Harris to exchange a few words. While the exact content of their brief conversation remains undisclosed, their body language suggested a shared reaction to the remark.
Body language experts have analyzed their interactions during the event, noting that both exhibited “fake smiles” and appeared “furious” during certain segments of Trump’s speech. These observations indicate that Biden and Harris were consciously managing their expressions in response to the proceedings.
Despite the public’s curiosity, no official statements have been made regarding the specifics of their whispered exchange. Such private conversations between political figures during significant events often remain confidential, leaving room for speculation and interpretation.
On January 20, 2025, during his first day in the Oval Office, President Donald Trump discovered a letter from his predecessor, Joe Biden, tucked inside a drawer of the Resolute Desk. This discovery occurred when a journalist inquired if Trump had received a letter from Biden, prompting the president to search the desk.
Upon finding the envelope addressed to “47,” referencing Trump’s position as the 47th President of the United States, Trump held it up and humorously suggested, “Maybe we should read it together.” However, he chose to set it aside, stating he would read it privately later.
The tradition of outgoing presidents leaving personal notes for their successors began in 1989 when Ronald Reagan left a lighthearted message for George H.W. Bush. Despite the often contentious nature of political transitions, this custom has endured as a gesture of goodwill and continuity. Biden’s decision to leave a letter for Trump continues this bipartisan practice.
While the contents of Biden’s letter remain undisclosed, such messages typically offer personal reflections, advice, and encouragement for the challenges ahead. Biden had previously described the letter he received from Trump in 2021 as “very generous,” highlighting the personal nature of these communications.
This exchange underscores the enduring traditions of the U.S. presidency, emphasizing respect and continuity amidst political change.
During President Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20, 2025, a brief interaction between Barron Trump and former President Joe Biden captured public attention. As Barron, the 18-year-old son of President Trump, greeted attendees, he approached Biden with a handshake and exchanged a few words. While the exact content of their conversation remains undisclosed, body language experts have analyzed the exchange, noting a visible change in Biden’s facial expression from a smile to a more neutral demeanor. This shift has led to widespread speculation about the nature of their dialogue.
Lip-reading specialists have attempted to decipher the conversation, suggesting that Biden remarked, “It’s good to see you, man,” to which Barron reportedly responded, “Exactly.” This interaction, though brief, has sparked discussions across social media platforms, with many users expressing curiosity about the exchange and its potential implications.
The encounter between Barron Trump and Joe Biden stands out as a notable moment during the inauguration, highlighting the personal dynamics present amidst the formal proceedings. As with many high-profile events, such interactions often become focal points for public and media interest, offering glimpses into the relationships between prominent political figures and their families.
On January 20, 2025, during the inauguration ceremonies in Washington, D.C., outgoing Vice President Kamala Harris and incoming Vice President J.D. Vance shared a limousine ride to the Capitol. This gesture, symbolizing the peaceful transfer of power, was particularly noteworthy given the preceding tensions between the two.
Pre-Inauguration Interactions
Prior to the inauguration, reports indicated that Vice President Harris declined to invite Vice President-elect Vance for the traditional pre-inaugural tour of the vice president’s residence at the Naval Observatory. This customary gesture aims to familiarize the incoming vice president with their new home. The absence of this invitation was seen by some as a departure from established protocol.
Inauguration Day Dynamics
Despite the earlier omission, the decision to share a limousine to the Capitol was viewed as an effort to demonstrate unity and uphold the tradition of a smooth transition. Observers noted that both Harris and Vance engaged in cordial conversation during the ride, setting a positive tone for the day’s events.
Public and Media Reactions
The shared limousine ride garnered attention from both the public and media outlets. Many interpreted the gesture as a hopeful sign of bipartisanship and a commitment to national unity amidst a polarized political climate. Commentators highlighted the importance of such symbolic acts in reinforcing democratic norms and fostering collaboration between outgoing and incoming administrations.
Conclusion
The joint appearance of Kamala Harris and J.D. Vance en route to the Capitol underscored the resilience of democratic traditions in the United States. While pre-inauguration interactions may have deviated from customary practices, the shared limousine ride served as a public affirmation of the nation’s enduring commitment to the peaceful transfer of power.
During a national prayer service at the Washington National Cathedral on January 21, 2025, Episcopal Bishop Mariann Budde directly addressed President Donald Trump, urging him to “have mercy” on LGBTQ+ individuals and migrants.
This appeal came in the wake of recent executive orders affecting transgender rights and immigration policies.
President Trump later dismissed the sermon as “not too exciting,” while Elon Musk criticized Budde’s remarks on his social media platform.
The presidential inauguration was always going to be the catalyst for any number of salacious stories.
With Donald Trump being sworn in ahead of his second term as POTUS, all eyes were on Capitol Hill yesterday, January 20, to see what controversy could be found as the hand holding the pen of US history begins to write a new chapter.
As predicted, there was much and more in the way of speculation and moments worthy of going viral online. One such moment involved Donald and Melania Trump, with the first lady appearing to ‘turn her face’ from her husband as he failed to kiss her during the inauguration.
Prior to his all-important speech, given immediately after he took his oath of office, Trump and Melania arrived for the traditional church service that marks the start of the inauguration and the official end of the outgoing administration.
In plain view of the cameras, Trump appeared to try and kiss his wife in what would have been a somewhat uncharacteristic moment of public affection. Melania, however, dressed in an eye-catching hat that hid most of her face, turned her head so that her husband’s attempt fell short.
Needless to say, the moment sparked all manner of theories and comments online, with people taking to the internet to discuss the legitimacy of Melania’s move. Was this the first lady intentionally turning her face to avoid being kissed by her husband? Or was it simply a coincidence that happened to play out before the eyes of the world?
Attempting to clear the matter up, body language expert Judi James shared her thoughts on what the ‘dodge’ might indicate, telling Paddy Power that Donald Trump entered the inauguration event “with a slow alpha presence” with a “mouth shrug smile to suggest a sombre, serious approach to the job.”
James added that when Donald reached Melania, he “tenderly” took her hand “in a romantic, hand-linking gesture that would normally be seen at a wedding ceremony.”
Melania dodges kiss
She went on: “He then leant in to plant a kiss on his wife and for a moment it looked as though he was going for a lip-to-lip kiss.
“Melania leant towards her husband to reciprocate but she also turned her face to instigate a cheek kiss rather than the mouth variety.”

James labeled it a ‘heart-stopping moment’ that can be interpreted ‘as though their synchronicity might be out of kilter’.
Melania’s outfit, meanwhile, was picked apart online for being what some deemed too sombre for the joyous occasion of her husband returning to the Oval Office. Donning a dark boater hat that wreathed her face in shadow, as well as a high-necked outfit, the first lady’s choice of attire was called into question by folk online, some of whom referred to her look as that of a “mob wife at a funeral” and “Dark Maga”.
Rumors have insisted that Melania will not make the White House her full-time residence during her husband’s second administration, and will instead choose to split her time between Washington and New York, where she and Donald’s son, Barron, is now studying.
Donald Trump’s promises
As for Donald, his inauguration speech was about as action-packed and weighted with as many lofty promises as one might expect. Among his litany of bold pledges, Trump pledged to tackle immigration on Day 1, stating “I will launch the largest deportation program in American history to get the criminals out.
“I will rescue every city and town that has been invaded and conquered, and we will put these vicious and bloodthirsty criminals in jail, then kick them the hell out of our country as fast as possible.”
Trump also vowed to make hidden government files, including those related to the assassinations of JFK and Martin Luther King Jr., public, as well as look into potential pardons for many of the rioters involved in the insurrection at the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
The new POTUS also spoke about his wish to get rid of birthright citizenship, though this may be difficult to achieve as it’s written into the constitution, and cut federal funding for schools educating on so-called “inappropriate” topics.
“On day one, I will sign a new executive order to cut federal funding for any school pushing critical race theory, transgender insanity,” Trump said, according to NPR.

Once again, Melania Trump is officially the First Lady of the United States. On Monday, January 20, Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States, and his wife was at his side for the entire day of ceremonies and celebrations.
While one body language expert branded Melania Trump “unhappy” during election night, things appeared to be different for the inauguration. Meanwhile, Melania’s outfit was in the spotlight and the subject of deep analysis, with one piece of clothing standing out.
The First Lady wore a very special hat, which appeared to have a powerful message. And for that – on social media at least – Melania Trump was mocked.
Donald and Melania have been preparing to move into the White House for months. On Monday, January 20, it finally happened as the former real estate mogul was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States, beginning his second term as president. His wife and the rest of his family, including he and Melania’s son, Barron, were at his side the entire day. Because of the unusually cold weather, Trump took his oath of office inside the Capitol Rotunda.
Speaking to the Mirror, body language expert Judi James noticed Donald spent much of the inauguration clutching his wife’s hand or, as she described, “taking it like some Regency gentleman, kissing her proffered cheek or even gazing at her as they danced together like a man in the throes of some romantic thrall.”
The First Lady’s outfits are always likely to be a big talking point. For the inauguration, they were, of course, heavily scrutinzed. According to Judi James, Melania’s outfit played a crucial part in sending a message about what kind of First Lady she would be.
“Her saucer- shaped hat and her fiercely-tailored coat twinned her as an equal to Trump and a woman who means business this time around. Beneath the brim her smile was regal and confident, while her eyes were kept hidden,” James said.
“During tricky social moments, like when they were seeing the Biden’s off after Trump’s flame-thrower of a speech, Melania seemed to make her own feelings very clear when Biden placed an arm around her waist for a full ten seconds and she turned away towards her husband with one elbow splayed as she held onto her hat brim. As Trump leaned in to shake hands with Biden she placed her own arm around Trump’s waist for several seconds and patted him in a gesture of reward and reassurance.”
While Melania wore a stunning outfit, getting the exact one she perhaps wanted appears to have been quite tricky. Women’s Wear Daily contacted 16 designers to ask if they would dress Melania. However, Mrs. Trump, it appears, isn’t all that popular with designers.
Representatives for designer brands such as Michael Kors, Diotima’s Rachel Scott, Zankov’s Sergio Hudson, and House of Gilles declined to comment whether they would want to work with Melania for the inauguration. Previously, during Donald Trump’s first term, designers such as Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs, and Jason Wu publicly refused to dress Melania.
One of those who has worked closely with Melania over the years is French designer Hervé Pierre. Speaking with Women’s Wear Daily, he explained that he hasn’t gotten a good answer about why some people won’t work with the First Lady.
“I don’t really do that for the good reason that the fashion industry is not very welcoming [of Trump.] That’s no secret,” he explained. “Some are very open-minded and would be able to do something special. But a lot of people are not.”
The French designer recalled when his work with the Trumps negatively impacted his life. When shopping in a designer’s store in New York City, one person told him he “was not welcome here.”
“I understand that you can criticise Mrs. Trump, but to say to someone who is coming to shop – full-price, ‘You are not welcome here.’ That is something that I would have never expected,” Pierre said.
“Some of the designers here in New York are lovely. The Europeans are more open-minded. They see dressing Mrs. Trump, due to the press coverage that she is getting, as a business opportunity to generate sales and free publicity.”
Melania Trump’s “power signals” have increased, body language expert Judi James stated. She added that the First Lady’s warm smile showed “an air of relaxed confidence.
“As they leave the service, Donald and Melania amplify their clasped hands into a more pronounced display of unity. Trump lifts the clasp higher a few times, almost waving it as they walk towards their car, as though signaling both pride in his wife and a gentlemanly concern for her as they step off the curb,” James told the Mirror.
“Trump’s expression is familiar – the slightly stern, almost baleful look that mirrors his official portrait. Melania, in contrast, seems determined to inject a touch of celebration into the occasion. Though her eyes are shielded by the brim of her hat, her wide, toothy smile creates an air of relaxed confidence.”
Melania has stated that she is much more prepared to enter the White House this time around. As a result, she will likely approach things differently – according to another body language expert, Inbaal Honigman, even her behavior was different at this inauguration compared to the one in 2017.
“Melania’s body language during the 2025 inauguration is still and neutral,” Inbaal told the Express. “She sits still in her model pose, her facial expression neutral, not drawing any attention to herself, letting all attention be on her husband.”
He continued by saying that she appeared more “friendly.”
“In comparison, Melania of 2017 flashed smiles and waved around, displaying a more friendly persona to the crowds,” he explained. Melania’s face is naturally neutral. She doesn’t have an expressive demeanor in general and has previously been criticized for having short-lasting smiles, which she must have known.”
Inbaal Honigman concluded: “This inauguration’s Melania was protected from criticism by hiding her expression behind a wide-brimmed hat so that she could keep her neutral expression with no issue.”
Yes, the hat. Melania wore her hat for the entire day, both inside and while walking outside, and it became the talk of the town. The hat was designed by Eric Javits, who said in a statement that dressing Melania was one of the greatest honors of his career.
“My art background gave me an edge in bringing harmony and balance to the face by creating hat shapes that would flatter and enhance every kind of face,” Javits said in a statement. “In this specific case that was not difficult to do, in that Mrs. Trump is blessed with great bone structure, beauty and a wonderful sense of style.”
The hat made it hard to see Melania’s eyes, but even though it appeared to be sitting steadily, her husband had seen something different. When speaking in Emancipation Hall, Donald joked that her hat nearly blew away while she was stood next to a military helicopter.
“She almost blew away,” Trump said and laughed. “She was being elevated off the ground.”
In addition to the hat, Melania wore a navy silk wool coat with a navy skirt and an ivory silk crepe blouse, created by American designer Adam Lippes.
“The tradition of the presidential inauguration embodies the beauty of American democracy and today we had the honor to dress our first lady, Mrs. Melania Trump,” Lippes said in a statement. “Mrs. Trump’s outfit was created by some of America’s finest craftsmen and I take great pride in showing such work to the world.”
Although the ceremonies throughout the day went well for the Trumps, social media users had a lot to say about Melania’s hat. One person wrote on X, previously known as Twitter, that she “looks like she’s going to a funeral.”
Another person added: “She’s mourning America.”
Many things will differ for Donald and Melania during their second tenure at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. One major difference is that their son, Barron Trump, won’t live there. He began his studies at New York University last year. However, though he might not visit weekly, his mother told Fox that Barron is always welcome.
“Obviously he’ll have a bedroom there, but he’s an adult, he’s in college now. I think he will come and visit, yes,” Melania said, adding that she’d love it if he’d bring friends. “Yeah, whatever he would like to do, yes. I feel that as children, we have them till they are 18, 19 years old. We teach them, we guide them, and then we give them the wings to fly. And I always respect Barron’s yes and no, and what he likes to do, where he would like to be.”

The past few days have been all about Donald Trump’s inauguration, with all eyes on the Trump family and his inner circle.
But in the midst of it all, an unexpected star stole the show — JD Vance’s little daughter.
What she wore on her hand left everyone’s hearts melting.
Matching blue suits and ties
January 20 was a momentous day for the Vance family. And photos of J.D. Vance and his family at the inauguration of the newly elected Vice President quickly captured the hearts of people across the nation.
The pictures showcased Vance alongside his wife, Usha, and their three children — Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel — radiating pride and warmth.

The Vice President showed up for the big moment in a sharp dark blue suit, and you could tell it was a huge deal for him personally. It’s wild to think that just two years ago, he won his very first political race in Ohio.
During the swearing-in ceremony, J.D. placed his hand on the Bible, held by his wife, Usha, as he took the oath of office. Usha stood proudly next to her husband, cradling little Mirabel, 2, in her arms, while their sons, Ewan, 7, and Vivek, 4, dressed in matching blue suits and ties, looked on. It was a picture-perfect family moment—until viewers noticed a small but heartwarming detail.
Mirabel’s moment
Mirabel, with her thumb in her mouth, had her tiny fingers wrapped in bandages. It was such a heartwarming moment because, amidst all the historic and formal events of the day, she reminded everyone of the simple, sweet innocence of being a toddler. It wasn’t just the cute bandages on her fingers—it was the carefree way she was soaking in such a big moment. She had a relaxed, childlike charm, which made it even more special. It reminded everyone of the simplicity of being a kid, even in the spotlight, just like when you’re glued to your favorite cartoons—whether it’s Bluey or Scooby-Doo.
Just like any other little kid, she had her own little quirks, and that made the whole thing feel more real and relatable.
Social media quickly lit up with adoration for the toddler’s innocent charm. One user wrote on X, “I think the whole country can come together and agree that JD Vance’s daughter sucking her thumb with those kid bandages on her other fingers is totally adorable.” Another joked, “JD Vance’s daughter covering herself with bandaids just ahead of an important event is an iconic toddler move.”

A separate photo captured another tender family moment as J.D. bent down to talk to his two sons. One of the boys held tight to a stuffed bear while leaning on a railing, proving even monumental events can’t shake the comfort of a favorite toy.
Wrapped in bandages
But Mirabel wasn’t the only one drawing attention. Usha, the nation’s new Second Lady, also turned heads in her custom Oscar de la Renta cashmere coat and tea-length dress in a soft shade of pink. The ensemble was elegant, but it wasn’t just her outfit that had people talking.
Usha, who grew up in a middle-class community in San Diego as the daughter of Indian immigrants, has always been a source of strength and pride for the family. She and J.D. met in law school in 2010, and have been married since 2014. Monday’s ceremony also marked a significant milestone for Usha as the first Indian American Second Lady.

After the ceremony, J.D.’s children and his mother were escorted out of the U.S. Capitol, with each of his sons walking alongside a guard while Mirabel was carried.
The family moment melted hearts nationwide, with viewers calling the Vance family “lovely” and gushing over the children’s sweetness. One admirer remarked, “Vance’s little daughter looks just like him. So cute.”
Parents to three children
J.D. Vance and his wife, Usha, are parents to three children. While the Vance children occasionally make appearances at public events, their parents have kept most details about their lives private.
Their first son, Ewan, was born in 2017, followed by their second son, Vivek, in 2020, and their youngest, daughter Mirabel, arrived in December 2021.
The Vice President shared the joyous news in a now-deleted Instagram post, featuring a heartfelt photo from the hospital. In the image, he lovingly held the newest member of their family:
”We were blessed with an early Christmas present this year. Everyone please meet Mirabel Rose Vance, our first girl. Mama and baby both doing great, and we’re feeling very grateful this Christmas season,” he wrote.
In February 2024, J.D. also made a touching gesture for his son Vivek’s 4th birthday by reading Oh, the Places You’ll Go! by Dr. Seuss on the Senate floor.
“I’m sorry that I can’t be with you for your birthday dinner,” he said during the reading. “But I want you to know that Daddy loves you very much. And I’m going to read this into the record because maybe you can watch it at home.”
In a world often consumed by politics and division, the simplicity of a toddler’s bandaged fingers and a stuffed bear reminded everyone watching of what truly matters — family, love, and the moments that make life beautifully imperfect.
As one viewer put it perfectly, “J.D. Vance has the CUTEST daughter. She is absolutely adorable. 😍
President-elect Donald Trump revealed his official inaugural portrait on Thursday, and it’s already igniting fiery reactions across social media. Many users were quick to point out the striking similarity between the image and Trump’s now-famous 2023 mugshot.
The portrait, released alongside one of Vice President-elect J.D. Vance, appeared on Trump’s official website with the bold caption, “Official Portraits Released — And They Go Hard????” The announcement instantly divided the internet, with supporters praising its bold tone and critics expressing concern over its intimidating appearance.
Supporters on X, formerly known as Twitter, hailed the portrait as a show of strength, but critics claimed it carried a darker message. “Trump intentionally copying his mugshot for an inaugural portrait is quite a move,” one user wrote. Another commented, “This looks like a villain from a James Bond movie. It’s unsettling. #TrumpMugshot.”
Some noted the serious tone of the image, saying it was intentionally designed to evoke a sense of defiance. “It’s a very dark and brooding portrait that feels like a nod to his mugshot,” another critic posted. “You’d think a president-elect preparing for a new term would at least crack a smile.”
The mugshot that has drawn so many comparisons was taken in August 2023 after Trump surrendered at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta. The booking followed his indictment on charges of election interference, stemming from allegations of attempting to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results.
Trump’s inaugural portrait bears undeniable similarities to that image. In both, he sports a scowling expression and a slight forward tilt of his head, though the portrait features harsher lighting for a more dramatic effect.
Many Trump supporters have embraced the portrait, calling it a symbol of resilience and strength. One user described the image as “badass,” suggesting that the stern expression was a deliberate choice to remind the public of Trump’s battles with what he and his followers have labeled the “Deep State.”
Critics, however, have seized the moment to mock the president-elect. One post read, “This portrait doesn’t scream leadership—it screams ‘revenge tour.’”
This isn’t the first time Trump has opted for an intense inaugural portrait. His 2016 image also featured a serious expression and narrowed eyes, but the new portrait takes that intensity to another level.
As with so much of Trump’s public image, the portrait has left few people indifferent. Whether viewed as a powerful statement or a troubling reflection of his controversial tenure, it’s clear Trump’s approach to leadership remains as polarizing as ever.
This author had specifically recommended that Trump take over 200 actions — including executive orders — in his first 100 days in office, in the book The Agenda: What Trump Should Do in His First 100 Days.
Trump’s executive orders roughly followed that blueprint, and included the following orders relating to Israel:
Revoking President Joe Biden’s sanctions on the International Criminal Court, which is prosecuting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former defense minister Yoav Gallant (page 37 of The Agenda) Blocking visas to individuals who support foreign terror organizations, ensuring that those admitted to this country “do not bear hostile attitudes toward its citizens, culture, government, institutions, or founding principles, and do not advocate for, aid, or support designated foreign terrorists and other threats to our national security” (page 25 of The Agenda) Pausing and reviewing foreign aid to ensure that funding does not go to groups that oppose U.S. interests, like the (unnamed) terror-linked United Nations Relief and Works Agency, or UNRWA (pages 33 and 37 of The Agenda) Revoking sanctions that the Biden administration imposed on individuals perceived to support Israeli settlement within Judea and Samaria (the West Bank) or otherwise perceived as having the “wrong” views on peace negotiations with, or aid to, the Palestinians (page 34 of The Agenda). The orders were handed to Trump by Staff Secretary Will Scharf, a Harvard-trained lawyer and former federal prosecutor who is also one of Trump’s personal attorneys, and is active in both Jewish and conservative causes.
In addition to signing pro-Israel executive orders, Trump brought former Israeli hostages, including Noa Argamani, and the families of Israeli hostages still being held in Gaza onstage with him at a rally following the Inauguration ceremony.
Israeli commandos rescued Argamani last June, together with three other hostages, in a daring mission in the heart of Gaza. Israeli police officer Arnon Zamora fell in battle during the rescue attempt.
Trump and the Republican Party made the issue of the Israeli hostages — several of whom hold U.S. citizenship — a major theme in the 2024 campaign.

Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio was confirmed as President Donald Trump’s secretary of state by the Senate on Monday by a vote of 99-0.
Rubio will play a key role in fulfilling many of Trump’s most ambitious campaign pledges, including putting a stop to the conflict in Ukraine, thwarting China’s expanding might, and enacting a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
Democrats paved the path for a streamlined confirmation process after the Senate Foreign Relations Committee overwhelmingly recommended Rubio’s confirmation earlier Monday.
For one of their own, it is a thundering demonstration of Senate bipartisanship.
Since 2011, the 53-year-old Floridian has been a member of the Senate. Before withdrawing and supporting Trump, he was a presidential candidate in 2016. He was on Trump’s shortlist for vice president in 2024.
Rubio is a well-known China hawk who is against restoring relations with Cuba and would be the first Latino to serve as secretary of state.
As Axios first reported, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Ashley Moody, the state’s attorney general, to take Rubio’s spot in the Senate.
One of the biggest foreign policy difficulties facing the Trump administration will be Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which will begin its fourth year next month.
Trump will sign more than 200 executive actions, a vast first wave of policy priorities centered on energy, border security, lowering the cost of living for American families, terminating DEI programs throughout the federal government, and more.
“The president is issuing a historic series of executive orders and actions that will fundamentally reform the American government, including the complete and total restoration of American sovereignty,” the official told Fox News.
Trump will declare a national border emergency on the first day, order the U.S. military to cooperate with the Department of Homeland Security to completely secure the southern border, and make it a national priority to eradicate all criminal cartels that are active on American soil.
Trump will issue a proclamation closing the border to all illegal aliens.
Additionally, Trump plans to form homeland security task forces comprising FBI, ICE, CEA, and other law enforcement officers to “fully eradicate the presence of criminal cartels.”
To fulfill his homeland security mission, Trump will also order the designation of cartels as foreign terrorist organizations, according to the official.
Trump will also re-institute “Remain in Mexico,” and direct the military to construct a new area of border wall. He will grant emergency authorities to suspend the entry of illegal aliens across the southwest border, allowing for individuals apprehended to be “swiftly returned to their countries of origin.”
Jimmy Carter’s recent state funeral was a significant event, uniting almost all living First Ladies in a rare display of unity. During their respectful attendance, each paid their respects with heartfelt gestures and carefully chosen attire.
Former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away at the age of 100, was honored in a state funeral at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. The gathering of First Ladies at Carter’s funeral was a poignant reminder of the influence these women have had on the nation’s history.
Each brought a unique sense of style to the occasion, with carefully chosen outfits that reflected the somber tone of the service. Here’s a closer look at what they wore to pay their final respects.
Melania Trump attended the state funeral alongside her husband, former President and President-elect Donald Trump.
Known for her impeccable fashion sense, the former First Lady wore a striking black coat dress by Valentino, which stood out for its elegant design and subtle artistic statement.
The coat dress from Valentino’s Fall 2019 collection featured a statement collar adorned with a black-and-white print of a 19th-century sculpture titled “The Kiss.” The sculpture, originally conceived as part of the larger piece “The Gates of Hell,” symbolized love and eternity — an appropriate nod to Carter’s legacy.
Melania kept her accessories minimal, wearing classic black Manolo Blahnik pumps and delicate jewelry. Her polished look conveyed respect and dignity, staying true to her personal style of understated elegance.
“She looked lovely and elegant,” one social media user said of Melania’s outfit. Another typed, “She was dressed entirely appropriately and elegantly. A credit to her role and the United States.”
President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden welcomed incoming President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump to the White House for tea on Monday morning.
Joe Biden was heard shouting “Welcome home” as Trump arrived. Chilled by the wind, the two couples shook hands and posed for a few pictures. Biden told reporters he was feeling “good” before Trump arrived and said that “joy” was his message for the day….
On January 20, 2025, the U.S. Senate passed the Laken Riley Act, a significant immigration measure mandating the detention of undocumented immigrants accused of theft-related offenses. The Act, named after Laken Riley—a Georgia nursing student murdered by an undocumented Venezuelan immigrant—received bipartisan support, passing with a 64-35 vote.
Key Provisions of the Laken Riley Act:
Mandatory Detention: The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is required to detain undocumented individuals charged with theft-related crimes, including minor offenses such as shoplifting.
State Authority to Sue: The Act empowers states to sue the federal government if immigration laws are not enforced, allowing them to challenge DHS decisions by demonstrating financial harm exceeding $100.
Legislative Journey:
The House of Representatives initially passed the Laken Riley Act on January 7, 2025, with a 264-159 vote, including support from 48 Democrats. Following the Senate’s approval, the bill returns to the House due to amendments made during Senate deliberations. Once the House concurs with these changes, the legislation will proceed to President Donald Trump’s desk for signing.
Political Implications:
The Act’s passage reflects a notable shift in immigration policy, with several Democrats aligning with Republican counterparts. This bipartisan support indicates a changing stance on immigration enforcement, influenced by rising concerns in border states and upcoming electoral considerations.
Criticism and Concerns:
Opponents argue that the Laken Riley Act could lead to due process violations, as it mandates detention without bond hearings for those merely accused of minor crimes. Additionally, the financial burden of implementing the Act is substantial, with estimates reaching $83 billion over three years. Critics also highlight potential constitutional challenges, particularly regarding state authority to influence federal immigration decisions.
As the Laken Riley Act advances toward becoming law, it signifies a pivotal moment in U.S. immigration policy, balancing enforcement with legal and ethical considerations.
During President Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20, 2025, he announced plans to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America.” This declaration elicited a notable reaction from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who was seen stifling laughter in response. The moment, captured on video, quickly circulated across various media platforms, highlighting the former presidential candidate’s amusement at the proposed name change.
President Trump’s statement emphasized his vision for America’s renewed prominence, stating, “America will reclaim its rightful place as the greatest, most powerful, most respected nation on earth.” He further added, “A short time from now, we will be changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.” This initiative aligns with his earlier remarks at a Mar-a-Lago press conference, where he described the name change as “appropriate” and a reflection of America’s sovereignty.
The proposal to rename the Gulf has sparked discussions and varied reactions. Supporters view it as a patriotic move to assert national pride, while critics question its diplomatic implications and practicality. Hillary Clinton’s candid reaction during the inauguration underscores the diverse perspectives on this initiative, highlighting the ongoing debates surrounding national identity and international relations.
First lady Jill Biden extended a gesture of kindness to incoming first lady Melania Trump after she did not accept her traditional invitation for tea at the White House in November. As a substitute, Jill Biden passed a note to President-elect Donald Trump for his wife. “I congratulated her and I offered help,”
Biden said in an interview with the Washington Post. “What would be the point of nastiness?” Melania Trump’s absence from the event may be the first time an incoming first lady has not attended the occasion. Her office released a statement saying, “…the media continue to provide false, misleading and inaccurate information”
about her absence from the event. Melania Trump eventually thanked Jill Biden for the note when they attended former President Jimmy Carter’s state funeral last Thursday.
